A. Earl Catmull Obituary (1921 - 2016)

1921-2016 The world lost a great man when our beloved and noble father, A. Earl Catmull, 94, peacefully passed away on Thursday, May 12, 2016. His loving family was by his side. Earl was born in Rupert Idaho, December 7, 1921. He started his teaching career at age 19 in Acequia, Idaho. He enlisted in the US Marine Corp where he was stationed in Iwo Jima. During a leave in San Francisco he met his eternal sweetheart, Jean Marie Decker. They were married February 27, 1944 in Parkersburg, West Virginia. They were later sealed in the Salt Lake Temple. Education was his passion and the inspiration for many of his stories. Dr. Catmull continued his educational career for over 40 years as a math teacher, Granite District Math Supervisor, Principal at Granite High School and he opened and was principal of Taylorsville High School. After Jean passed away in 1989, Earl married Ruth Green. Ruth passed away March 26, 2013. Earl is survived by his children: Edwin (Susan), Donna Shelton (Michael), William (Marsha), Linda Crandall (Lyle), Susan Jensen (Lamar); stepchildren, Ann, Larry, Karen, Ron; and sister, Jean Phillips. He also has 23 grandchildren and 42 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by Jean and Ruth, two grandsons, and 12 brothers and sisters. A Viewing will be held 7:00-8:30 pm. on Monday, May 16, 2015 at Jenkins-Soffe Mortuary (4760 South State Street, Murray, UT.) There will also be a viewing Tuesday morning 9:45-10:45 a.m. prior to the 11:00 am funeral services at the Winder West 3rd Ward, 4551 South 1200 East. Interment will be at Elysian Burial Gardens.
