“Teach”\nOn a beautiful fall morning, our loving mother, grandmother, sister and friend, went peacefully home. She was born May 21, 1924 to Christopher Allen & Irene Pearson Robinson in Salt Lake City, and passed away October 30, 2006. She married her grade school sweetheart, Elwood L. Phinney, August 20, 1948. He passed away April 25, 1982.\nAleen was a graduate of Murray High School. She attended the University of Utah, where she affiliated with Alpha Delta Pi, and graduated Cum Laude in three years. She was a recipient of a National Defense Fellowship during post-graduate study and received her Master’s Degree in Educational Psychology. \nShe was a teacher/counselor for 21 years—17 years as a counselor at Riverview Jr. High. She served on many state committees for educational reform, Teachers’ and Counselors’ Certification & drug abuse prevention. \nShe was elected to Psi Chi, the National Honorary Psychological Society, while at the University. She received the Murray High School Distinguished Alumnus Award in 1984, and also received the “Utah Club Woman of the Year” in 1995—a silver bowl was presented by the Salt Lake Tribune. She was a member of the Eastern Star, Peace Chapter No. 2, Stuttgart, Germany, member of the Murray Ladies Civic Guild, and member of the Utah Women’s Legislative Council. She was an active member of the LDS Church, teaching in Relief Society.\nSurvived by her children, Carlyn Jensen, Kevin (Janet) Phinney and six exceptional grandchildren, Ashley, Kirstin and Christopher Jensen, Brandon, Andrea, and Sean Phinney; sister, Lorraine (Craig) Roberts.\nBecause of her love for children and young people, in lieu of flowers, her family suggests donations to the Primary Children’s Hospital or the Shriner’s Children’s Hospital.\nAleen will always be remembered for her kind and generous spirit, her wonderful humor and sense of adventure. She was a friend to everyone and was loved by all who knew her.\nFuneral services will be held Thursday, November 2, 2006 at 11:00 a.m. at the Little Cottonwood 6th Ward, 6410 So. 725 E. Family and friends may call Wednesday evening from 6-8 p.m. at Jenkins-Soffe Mortuary, 4760 So. State St., and from 10:00-10:45 a.m. Thursday prior to services at the church. Interment: Murray City Cemetery.
