Anita Dianne Bennion, 73, passed away peacefully on January 15, 2020, after a stroke and renal failure. She was born 23 November 1946, in Independence Missouri, to Melvin James and Arlene Olpin Bennion. She was the second child of six, the other five were brothers.\r\n\r\nAnita grew up and was educated in Independence, graduating from William Chrisman High School in 1964. She went on to study in cosmetology but soon changed careers to law enforcement. She entered the Officer Training program for the Regional Center for Criminal Justice in Independence. Becoming a police officer, she served in Independence for several years. Later she moved to Salt Lake City, where she worked in Salt Lake County Communications and Dispatch for the County Sheriff’s office for over 30 years, including 911, Medical Dispatch, and 2002 Olympics Dispatch. She was a Senior Dispatch Supervisor for 25 years.\r\n\r\nAnita had a sense of humor and was quick witted. She loved animals, and loved caring for her dogs, of which she always had at least two. She had Schnauzers, Great Danes, Golden Retrievers, and mutts throughout the years, loving them deeply, as they were the children she never had. She did consider her nieces and nephews as her kids, too.\r\n\r\nAnita was active in the LDS Church, served in various callings. She had many interests and enjoyed cooking and taking treats to work to share with co-workers. She was a movie buff, with a collection of all kinds of movies. She knew the best care for plants, and shared cuttings willingly. And, of course always had a book handy.\r\n\r\nAnita was preceded in death by her parents, and is survived by her five brothers, Dick, Jim, Jerry, John and Bob, and many nieces and nephews.\r\n\r\nThe family wishes to thank Harmony Hospice for their care and dedication, and the great staff at Summit Senior Living that also gave great care and dedication to Anita.\r\n\r\nFuneral services will be held on Friday, January 24th, 2020 at 11:00 am at Jenkins-Soffe South Valley, 1007 W.
