Alpine, Utah
Athena Allen Lloyd was born on August 25, 1961, in Logan, Utah, to Gerald and Janet Allen. From a young age, Athena found joy in music and the arts, interests that would remain meaningful throughout her life. She graduated from Logan High School in 1979 and, having grown up just a stone’s throw from Utah State University, became a lifelong and devoted Aggie. In 1988, she completed a bachelor’s degree in Community Health and Education.
In 1986, Athena married her college sweetheart, Scott Lloyd, in the Logan Utah Temple. Together, they began building a life centered on family, faith, and love. While living in Salt Lake City, they welcomed their first daughter, Cortney, in 1988, followed by their second daughter, Blair, in 1990. Soon after, the young family set out on a new adventure and moved to Las Vegas, Nevada, where sons Bennett and Tanner were born in 1993 and 1996.
The Lloyds spent the 1990s in the desert, building a life full of memories and friendships that would last a lifetime. They later returned to Utah and settled in Utah County, where Scott and Athena continued raising their family and eventually made their home in Alpine.
As the oldest of eight children, Athena carried a deep sense of love and devotion for her siblings and extended family. Family was always at the center of her life, and she had a remarkable way of making the people she loved feel supported, remembered, and cared for.
Music was one of Athena’s great gifts. She shared that talent, most notably through more than 30 years of teaching piano. Over the decades, she touched the lives of countless students, offering not only musical instruction but encouragement, patience, and genuine care.
Athena was also a devoted member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She served faithfully as a seminary teacher and in many church callings, including Young Women's President, Primary President and Relief Society Presidencies. She loved the women and children she served, and many of those relationships became deeply meaningful parts of her life.
Athena filled many roles over the years, but none meant more to her than being a wife, mother, and grandmother. She was her children’s and grandbabies greatest encourager, celebrating their pursuits and standing beside them with unwavering support. Her love and devotion to them was constant and unconditional. Athena’s laughter and enthusiasm cast a net of happiness into every room she entered. She had a gift for bringing warmth, energy, and joy wherever she went.
On September 24, after a nearly three-year valiant battle with cancer, we said goodbye to our sweet Yaya. She was the true embodiment of Christ-like love and though her absence leaves broken hearts, the legacy she created through her family, friendships, faith, music, and service will continue to be felt for generations.
Her life and memory will continue through her husband, Scott Lloyd; her children and their families, Cortney and Matt Francis, and their children Brooks, Bailor, Lawsen, Wallace, and Wolfe; Blair Lloyd and Heston Nielson, and their daughter Penelope; Bennett Lloyd; and Tanner and Ashlee Lloyd; and her beloved fur son, Filson. As well as her siblings Matt, Toni, Byron, Eric, Alys, Ruth, Jonathan (deceased) and extended family.
We will celebrate Athena’s life on October 2 & 3 and warmly welcome all who knew and loved her to join us in remembering a truly remarkable woman.
