Benson Close Adams Obituary (1992 - 2021)

With shattered hearts, we announce the passing of our son, Benson Close Adams, on June 29, 2021 in his sleep. He wanted to live. Free. He wanted a husband and children, he had plans and dreams. He followed his dream of moving to Seattle in April of 2019 and he loved it. He first learned American Sign Language (ASL) at Skyline High School. He additionally took night college classes and achieved his first translator certificate. Later he finished up his national certification at the age of 19. Benson graduated from Utah Valley University with a degree in American Sign Language Education. He loved his student teaching! He loved the kids, and especially, his cooperating teacher. She became so special to him! But his true career path would be to interpret ASL. His ASL style and accepting nature made him highly sought after from clients. He was humble, always telling us that “I guess I must be OK, since I was specifically requested by the client.” He did ASL translation during his college years and continued up until his passing. He did ASL primarily in a University setting, as he loved to help deaf students. So, it was natural that he helped people at the University of Washington. He would report about translating complicated topics some of which included 4th dimensional geometry, which he knew absolutely nothing about. Benson loved. He deeply loved his parents, his brother Ty, his Nana, and his grandma’s and grandpa. He loved his brother/cousin, Cale and Cale's wife, Kim. And Benson truly, deeply loved their little girl, Lucia. He deeply loved his SLC group of friends. And Mallory. Even he had no words to describe what Mallory meant to him. The little girl he met in second grade who became is best friend. Oh yes! Benson loved. He leaves behind an ocean of broken hearts including: His mom and dad Guy and Marci Adams; his beloved brother Ty Adams; his brother Chad Hinerman; “nana” Juanita Watts; grandmother Beverly Folsom; grandfather and grandmother A. Myron Adams and Marie Adams; plus a vast list of relatives, friends and acquaintances. We are glad that he is now reunited with his “paca” Charles S. Watts, and grandfather Gerald Folsom. He is letting many of us know that “he is free.” Benson was an alcoholic, who was desperately trying to break free of the tenacious hold which alcohol had taken of his life. He was in treatment, and was looking forward to living his life free from this addiction. He was far from suicidal, Benson simply went to sleep expecting to wake up the next day but his last relapse mixed with medications made that his last sleep. We will be bringing his body here to Utah where we will have a small visitation at Jenkins-Soffe mortuary at 1007 W, South Jordan Parkway, South Jordan, Utah from 6pm-8pm, on Thursday July 15th, 2021. Following this he will be cremated and there will be a celebration of Life at: “The Studio” 12441So 900 E, Draper, UT 84020 from 4pm – 6pm, on Saturday, July 17th, 2021.
