Our beautiful, feisty, sassy, sweet Mother, Betty Jean Carter Walton, died June 18, 2016. Betty was born on September 21, 1921 in Salt Lake City in her Grandmother Osborn's home on 6th East and 2nd South. She was the first child of Ralph Moffit Carter and Pearl Osborn Carter. She attended West High School and graduated at 16 years old. She married Jesse Weston Walton on October 25, 1939. They were married for 72 years before Wes died in 2011.
Betty was a beautiful woman, and she loved to look pretty. She was well known for her sparkling, fancy clothes, shoes and hair. She loved to dress up and take her girls downtown to go shopping. She could out shop anyone; even in her last week she wanted to go shopping and buy a new outfit.
Everyone she met was her friend; she delighted in sharing pictures and stories of her family with friends and strangers alike. During World War II, she and her two sisters and their four tiny children shared a one-bedroom house while their husbands served in the military.
Betty worked for S&H Green Stamps for 20 years. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She and Dad enjoyed square dancing, traveling with family, rides in the car, visiting on the patio and family parties.
Betty is survived by her daughters: Carol Jean Wall (Mick) and Patricia Kay Willardsen (Frank); five grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister, June Jensen (Morris), Richfield, Utah. She is preceded in death by her husband, Wes Walton; a granddaughter, Leslie Willardsen; two sisters: Dorthy Simsich and Gloria Gehrke; and brother, Ralph Carter.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, June 23, 2016, at 11:00 AM at Jenkins-Soffe Mortuary, 4760 South State Street, Murray, Utah, where friends and family can visit from 9:30-10:30 AM prior to the services. Interment: Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park.
The family would like to give a special thanks to the staff of Cotton Place for the sweet care and love they gave Mom. You are great. Also, thanks to The Canyon Hospice and Mom's special nurse, Michelle Williams. "You are the best."
