Blanche Frances Glenn Obituary (1937 - 2016)

A Legacy of Love Blanche Frances Glenn (Helm) of South Jordan, Utah passed away with family by her side on May 12, 2016 in Vernal, Utah from complications arising from congestive heart failure. Blanche was born to Alton Claudius Helm and Gladys Elaine Snelson in Marysville, California on August 6, 1937. Blanche was raised in Southern California, the second of five sisters. She graduated in 1955 from Westchester High School and graduated from LDS Seminary. Upon graduation, Blanche attended Brigham Young University taking courses in the Pre-nursing program. While there, she met and fell in love with Clayton Jackson Glenn of Union, Oregon. When Clayton finished his degree in Elementary Education, Clayton was hired by the Newark School District in Newark, California in the San Francisco Bay Area. Blanche chose to put her formal studies on hold. She and Clayton married in the LDS Los Angeles Temple on August 24, 1956 and began their family. Blanche and Clayton spent one year in Newark, but then left Newark to teach in his hometown of Union, Oregon. Clayton took a summer job in Southern California Their first child, Becci, was born in the Los Angeles Area. While in Oregon, Rolene was born. After two years, the family returned to Newark-Fremont, California Area where Clayton rejoined the Newark School District, and remained there for the rest of his career. Blanche and Clayton settled in Newark, then Fremont, California where the remaining children, Rosemary, Raymond, Rochelle, Robert, Richard, Ramona, and Randall were born. We understand that Blanche had a preference for the letter "R". In 1965, the family bore the trial of losing Rochelle in an accident. Though difficult, Blanche and Clayton's faith and commitment to the Lord grew stronger and served as an eloquent example to their children. Blanche's life centered on service to her family and the Lord. She was a devoted wife, mother, daughter, sister, and friend. She never drew attention to herself, preferring to give humble, Christ-like service when and wherever it was needed. Blanche was cheerful, kind, forgiving, ever anxious to listen to you for as long as you needed. Conversations with her were always engaging. Her counsel was well grounded and practical. She believed the Lord gave us resources to help others. Many are the recipients of her generosity. Blanche had a bright and active mind. Though she set aside her formal education, Blanche never stopped learning. She was an avid reader, as her family can attest to a large library of books that she read and shared with all who were interested. She was a master seamstress, quilter, knitter, a frugal homemaker, and hard worker, skills which she passed on to her children. When Clayton retired in 1991, they relocated to the Portland Metro Area, living in Gladstone and Clackamas until they sold their home in 2011 due to health issues. Blanche spent time with family over the next five years, settling in Utah. Blanche is survived by her husband, Clayton Glenn of South Jordan, Utah, Becci Lammi (Phil) of South Jordan, Utah, Rolene Grimm, (Brent) of Holladay, Utah, Rosemary Peterson (Ron) of Pleasanton, California, Raymond Glenn of Ogden, Utah, Robert Glenn of South Jordan, Utah, Richard Glenn (Nicole) of Longview, Washington, Ramona Grant (David) of Vernal, Utah, and Randall Glenn (Brook) of Canby, Oregon. Blanche has 29 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren. Her sisters are Maurvene Clark (Roy) of Nampa, Idaho, Donna Custer (Rich) of Saratoga Springs, Utah, Linda Seaton of Happy Valley, Oregon, and Carol Mauser (Eric) of Provo, Utah. She has a large number of cousins, nieces and nephews, and friends. Blanche is preceded in death by her parents, Alton Claudius Helm in (1991) and Gladys Elaine Snelson (2011), her daughter Rochelle (1965), and her grandson Hunter A. Harrison Glenn (1995). Services will be held on May 21, 2016, 11:00 AM at the Jenkins-Soffe Funeral Home 1007 W South Jordan Parkway South Jordan, Utah 84095 (801) 254-1928 The viewing will be 9:45 AM to 10:45 AM prior to the service at the same location. Internment will be just around the corner at the South Jordan City Cemetery, 10618 S 1055 W South Jordan, Utah at 12:30 PM.
