Lowell Donald Hansen Jr "Butch"\n\nBeloved Husband, Father, Grandfather, Great Grandfather, Brother who put up a hard fight passed away at his home surrounded by family due to complications of Parkinson's, A-Fib, and an Ischemic Stroke on October 14th, 2023.\n\nHe was born to Lowell and Helen Hansen on March 12th, 1947, graduated from South High School in 1966 where he began working for the Denver Rio Grande Railroad. He was drafted into the United States Army where he served in the Vietnam War for a year and a half before he was injured by a gunshot wound to the leg. He was told he may not walk again but with his prayers and hard work, he overcame the injury in which he was Honorably discharged and was awarded the Purple Heart. When he came back home, he finished his last remaining service time at the Dugway Proving Grounds where through a blind date met and fell in love with his wife Mary Jensen of 54 years. They were married in 1969 in the Salt Lake City Temple where they were sealed for time and eternity. They then were blessed with 3 beautiful daughters.\n\nHe continued working for the Denver Rio Grande Railroad where he worked as a carman and served in the union. He then became Secretary of the D.R.G.W Car Department Employees Federal Credit Union for several years before merging with Transwest Federal Credit Union where he served on the board of directors for 18 years, resigning in 2014.\n\nAfter 40 years he retired from the Union Pacific Railroad formally known as the Denver Rio Grande Railroad.\n\nHe enjoyed fishing, traveling with family and friends, and was an extreme sports fan. The University of Utah Utes and the San Francisco 49ers were among his two favorite teams. He enjoyed assisting Son Sudbury with High School football walking the sidelines and taking stats.\n\nHe is survived by his wife Mary Hansen, his daughters Sonya Hartle, Kristy (Chevy) Armenta and Jennifer Visser. Sister Maren (Gary) Mohigh and sister-in-law Loretta Hansen, 6 Grandchildren (LaNae, Riley, Drew, Alex, Lynze, and Johnathan), 5 Great Grandchildren (Carter, Brody, Ronald, DJ, and Crew) and lots of Nieces and Nephews as well as many others he considered family.\n\nHe was preceded in death by his parents Lowell and Helen Hansen, brother Fredrick Hansen and grandparents Earl and Viona Bain.\n\nA viewing will be held on Wednesday, October 25 from 6:00 - 8:00 PM at Jenkins-Soffe Funeral Homes located at 1007 S. Jordan Pkwy, South Jordan, UT 84095.
