Calvin Craven Dahl

–

West Valley City, UT

1943-2013

Calvin C. Dahl, Father, Grandfather, and husband, passed away on April 4, 2013 in his home after a long challenge with the complications of diabetes.

Cal was born in September of 1943 in Murray City, Utah the sixth son of Paul Alexander and Esther Dahl. He grew up in East Midvale and attended his primary and secondary schooling in Midvale and Sandy where he graduated from Jordan High School with the Class of 1961. He briefly attended the University of Utah before serving an LDS Mission to the Southwest British Mission where he met his best friend and companion; the love of his life, Pauline. He married his sweetheart, Pauline Simpson, on February 12, 1965 in the Salt Lake Temple.

After his marriage to Pauline he pursued a career as a police officer where he worked for two years as a Reserve Police Officer for Murray City before becoming a full-time officer with Murray City in 1967 where he served as a patrolman and juvenile detective until retirement in 1995. He was the advisor over the Murray City Police Cadet Corps where he had the cherished opportunity to work with dozens of incredible young people that he referred to as "my kids". Another assignment while in police work was being a school resource officer in the Murray City School District.

He performed for over 40 years in the bluegrass musical group, The Mountain Green Volunteers, where he played guitar and sang. The little "bluegrass" group brought enjoyment to hundreds of people over the decades.

He was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints where he held many positions in both the classroom and administration of quorums and bishoprics. Cal loved to teach and cherished his time as a Gospel Doctrine teacher in his ward. Most recently he served as the High Priest Group Leader in the Hunter 15th Ward. He has served four consecutive missions as a Church Service Missionary at the Family History Library in Salt Lake where he had a great interest in doing family history research. He enjoyed helping others in life and found great joy and satisfaction in both his profession and his church labors.

Cal and Pauline raised four tremendous children; Raymond (Laura) of Taylorsville, UT, Sean of Salt Lake City, UT, Richard (April) of Auckland, New Zealand, and Kristina (Tracy) Lee of Saratoga Springs. They have been blessed to have fifteen wonderful and loving grandchildren. His family and church provided the joy to his life that few people find in mortality. He had a great love for his Savior, Jesus Christ, who paid the price for all other blessings that he hopes to be the recipient of in Eternity.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Esther, and his brothers Paul and Alan Dahl.
