Caryl Stewart

–

Salt Lake City, Utah

Caryl June Stewart was born on October 6, 1936, to James and Mary Baschieri. She passed away on February 13, 2026, at the age of 89. After nearly 55 years, she was reunited with her husband, Robert Stewart. What a reunion!

Caryl was born and raised in Peoria, Illinois, where she completed her early education and went on to attend Bradley University. It was there that she met the love of her life, Robert (Bob) Bruce Stewart. Bob and Caryl graduated from Bradley University, joined The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and were married on July 19, 1959. Caryl taught high school English for one year before they welcomed their first child, Lynn.

On June 20, 1963, Bob and Caryl were sealed in the Salt Lake Temple. In 1967, they moved their young family to Salt Lake City, where Bob was recruited by ZCMI as an advertising executive. This was an adventurous move, leaving all extended family in Illinois behind. Together, they were the parents of four children: Lynn, Lisa, David, and Amy.

At the young age of 35, Bob was tragically killed in an automobile accident on June 1, 1971, leaving behind Caryl and their four children. Caryl chose to remain in Salt Lake City and raise her family there. When her world was turned upside down, her family remained her focus, joy, and purpose. The loving support of friends and neighbors, along with yearly visits from Caryl and Bob’s parents, helped her raise and support her family.

After Bob’s passing, Caryl went on to obtain her master’s degree in English. When Amy began kindergarten, Caryl returned to teaching. She joyfully taught at Bingham High School and later at West Jordan High School, where she completed her 23-year career as the English Department Chair. Caryl loved teaching and devoted a great deal of energy to her students.

Caryl retired from teaching in 1999 and devoted her full energy to her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. They filled her life with joy, and nothing made her happier than seeing her family happy and together.

Caryl was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, where she served in many callings. She served in Young Women’s, Primary, as a Gospel Doctrine teacher, and in both the Stake Young Women’s and Stake Primary presidencies. For 23 years, Caryl served as a service missionary at the Joseph Smith Memorial Building, where she made cherished lifelong friends. She loved her Savior and was always an example of compassion, love, and kindness as she ministered to her family, neighbors, and lifelong friends. Her testimony of the gospel, faith in eternal families, and Christlike love will be greatly missed.

Caryl’s daughters are grateful for the loving care David and Brian have given her for many years. They made it possible for her to remain in the home Bob and Caryl built. Thank you both.

Caryl is survived by her children: Lynn (Kirby) Park; Lisa (Russ) Lund; David (Brian Heater) Stewart; and Amy (Kevin Koons) Luther; 11 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren, with one on the way; and her brother, Michael Baschieri.

Caryl was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Stewart; her parents, James and Mary Baschieri; Bob’s parents, James and Mary Stewart; and Bob’s brother, James Stewart.
