Cathy Ray Stoehr Obituary (1952 - 2021)

Cathy Ray Stoehr Cathy peacefully passed away at home, unexpectedly, the morning of August 3rd. She was born June 28th, 1952, in Salt Lake City, Utah to Lou and Althea Ray. Cathy was the youngest, having one older sister, Sandy, and two older brothers, Michael, and Gary. On October 12th, 1970, Cathy married her soulmate and forever best friend, Ernie Stoehr after snagging him at the Frost Top. Together they had two children, Anissa (Lynn) and Chad (Carrie). Who gave them five grandchildren Kaedon, Madison, Nyle, Rhylie, and Cashtin. All of which she adored. We cannot not forget to include her fur baby, Saddie. Cathy and Ernie enjoyed many adventures together. From riding their Harley’s with their friends, snow skiing, and camping with their family, at least until the trailer incident… As her grandkids began entering her life, she became more involved in a bit little less dangerous hobbies. She took great pride in her yard which she loved and could easily be featured in Better Homes and Garden. Golf also became a favorite pass time. Several times a week she could be found on the course. Like everything she did, she did it well with a high score of 39 for 9 holes. The New York Giants were her team, her football board was a favorite for over 20 years. She enjoyed reading Stephen King novels and watching the birds. But most of all she loved spending time with her family. Sundays were commonly set aside for backyard family BBQing and lounging by the pool. Cathy was the ultimate hostess. The infamous yearly pool parties. Friends would come from all over the country to attend the invitation only event. The weddings, both of her children were married in her backyard. Not rain or hurricane winds could stop her from making it a good time for all. Even just dropping in to say hello. You couldn’t get through her front door without being handed a drink and an offer to make you food. Anything you wanted. Cathy was loyal, sympathetic, always giving to those in need, she was a genuinely loving person with a huge heart. People were drawn to her big smile and contagious laugh. She made a positive lasting impression on everyone she met. She made and kept many friends that she cared for throughout her life. However, she deeply cherished the special bond with her “Tribe”. She held them incredibly close as her chosen family. The love and friendship they all share is something others strive for but very few achieve. Cathy held positions in many fields early on. Including starting an autobody business with Ernie. A few years later changing directions, Cathy started working for what then was a small electrical company. At the beginning her office at Hunt Electric was just a desk above a garage. Her work ethic and compassion made her exceptional at her job supporting all those she worked with. For 20+ years she wore many hats becoming a true matriarch for hundreds of employees. It was only fitting she became commonly known throughout the field not as Cathy, but as “Mama Hunt”. Cathy happily retired in June of 2013 to spend her days with Ernie, perfecting her golf game, taking their morning walks along the parkway, beautifying her yard even more, loving on her fur baby Saddie, hand feeding the robins, field trips and lunches with the Tribe, continuously remodeling her house, and sitting in her favorite spot, on the back deck, overlooking the yard, sipping her whiskey diet coke watching the sunsets. Cathy, from the moment you left us, your presence will forever be missed. You have left a hole in our hearts that cannot be filled. We are so grateful for all the good times and memories we made together and will cherish them always. We take comfort knowing you are now watching over us, sending your love, good vibes, and beautiful sunsets. As much as Cathy loved flowers, she loved her fur babies even more. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to The Humane Society of Utah. Per her request, there will be no funeral services. However, a Celebration of Cathy’s life will be held at a future date.
