Cesar Anthony Martell Obituary (1970 - 2020)

On February 17th 2020 Cesar Anthony Martell peacefully returned to his Heavenly Father and reunited with his mother Teresa after a courageous battle with gastric cancer. Cesar was born on February 26th 1970 in San Francisco, CA at General Hospital where he was named baby of the month. He spent his younger years in El Salvador, before moving to Burlingame, CA where he fell in love with the San Francisco 49er’s. As a young teen his family relocated to Salt Lake City, UT where he became an alumni of South High School, and met classmates whom he considers family today. Tony went on to have four beautiful children before meeting the love of his life Amber. Amber and Tony were married on the steps of the court house in San Francisco, CA on October 5, 2009 and were able to spend ten adventurous and beautiful years together. After earning his associate’s degree from Salt Lake Community College, Tony enrolled in the police academy. Upon graduation, he started his law enforcement career with Granite School District and then pursued his career with West Valley PD. He became a detective while forming lifelong brotherhoods with many of his peers. Tony proudly served for 23 years. After retirement, you could find him on the lake fishing, in the mountains camping, or taking a selfie poolside. Tony’s passion for the 49er’s was fierce and undeniable, any given Sunday you could find him on the sidelines of a game in San Francisco or watching proudly at home. One of Tony’s most memorable moments as a fan, was when he was personally invited by the 49er’s to join them in a warm up where he was able to meet two of his favorite players Jerry Rice and Fred Warner. Although Tony had a passion for the 49er’s, there was no greater passion of his than spending time with his family and his friends that became family. His pride and joy were his children and grandchildren, whom find comfort in knowing he loved them enough for this lifetime, and the next. Tony was a devoted Christian and accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior. He was an inspiration to those who knew him and encouraged us to be better, to be kinder and to love one another. He is survived by his wife Amber; his father Jose Canelo, brother John (Jowee), Children: Desarae (Nick) Anthony (Brittny) McKayla, Gaven, Cayden (Bethanie) and Har. Nieces: Destinee (Keegan) Crystal (Aaron) Jade (Braxton) and Grandchildren Sergio, Cruz, Preslee, Uriah and Christian. Cesar was preceded in death by his mother Teresa. Special thanks to all the providers and staff at the University of Arizona Cancer Center and The Huntsman Cancer Institute as well as Dr. Thomas Miller. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, February 22, 2020, 11:00 a.m. at Hunter High School, 4200 South 5600 West, West Valley City, Utah. Interment to follow at Redwood Memorial Estates.
