Charles Earl Hammel passed away quietly in the middle of the night, February 27th, 2025 at the age of 92. He was born in Flint, MI on January 20th of 1933 at the height of the great depression and had a hard upbringing. He was the oldest of 7 children, with 5 brothers and a sister. He served in the Korean War in both Korea and Japan. He met his wife, Lola at the donut shop in Salt Lake City where they both worked. Charles enjoyed traveling, wood turning, trains, and reading. His favorite place to visit was Alaska. He also took his family on multiple road trips across the country. He enriched the lives of his family and neighbors by sharing his hobby of wood turning with them.
For about a decade he worked double shifts to provide for his family and always made sure his wife's and children's needs were met before his own. Later in life, he and his wife moved in with his mother-in-law to take care of her until her death.
He left three daughters and a son in descending order by age: Penelope, Madelyn, Albert, and Adell. His brother, Jim, is also still with us. Services will be held in his memory at 11am on Thursday, March 13, 2025 in the LDS chapel at 1239 Country Creek Dr, in South Jordan, Utah.
