“Papa”\nCharles Lyon passed away peacefully on January 4, 2008. Born November 21, 1920, in Murray, Utah, to George and Elmyra Holm Lyon. He married his sweetheart, LaRue Evans, in the Salt Lake Temple on Valentine’s Day in 1949.\nCharles was a proud graduate of Murray High School. He loved learning and lived life to the fullest, and was the greatest fan of his daughter, #1 son-in-law, his grandchildren and all their friends. He had a special nickname for everyone he met.\nCharles was an avid fisherman, writer, dancer and music lover. He traveled and sang with the Swannee Singers for 44 years. He and LaRue enjoyed dancing at the Terrace Ballroom, club with their friends and going to dinner and the movies—just spending time together. Charles was proud of his service in the Air Force during WWII and was stationed in Hawaii and Saipan.\nSurvived by his loving wife, LaRue, who took extraordinary care of him in their home until his passing; daughter, Jan (Blake) Smith; grandchildren, Angela (Peter) Sharp, Ashley Smith, Blake Charles Smith; sister, Juanita (Richard) Howe; brother, George Lyon; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.\nFuneral services will be held Tuesday, January 8, 2008 at 12 Noon at the First Ward Chapel, 760 E. 700 So., Salt Lake City, UT. Friends and family are invited to share memories Monday evening from 6-8 p.m. at Jenkins-Soffe Mortuary, 4760 So. State Street, and one hour prior to the services at the church on Tuesday. Interment: Murray City Cemetery.
