Conrad E. Nielsen

–

Midvale, UT

8/12/1930 ~ 6/29/2016
Our loving husband, father and grandfather Conrad Eugene Nielsen, passed away peacefully on June 29, 2016 in Murray, Utah. Conrad was born August 12, 1930 in Newel, Iowa to Walter and Julia Nielsen. Conrad attended all of his schooling in Newell until joining the Air Force, serving from 1948-1952.
He met his wife, Elaine Pett, while serving in the Air Force at Dugway Proving Ground. They immediately fell in love and were married December 6, 1952. Conrad and Elaine recently celebrated 63 years of marriage.
After being discharged from the Air Force in 1952, Conrad continued to work at Dugway Proving Ground until his retirement in 1985. He then moved with his wife to Midvale, Utah where they have been living ever since.
During their life together at Dugway, Conrad and Elaine were blessed with one daughter, Juliane, on May 18, 1960. She was their miracle baby, and the light of their life. Conrad lovingly referred to "His Girls" as Tiger I and Tiger II. Conrad taught Juliane to be kind to one another and value your family. He was the best dad any girl would ever want to have!
Conrad was also known as "Captain Hook" after an accident at Dugway caused him to lose his left arm. He loved hunting, fishing and especially spending time with his family at Fish Lake, Utah. Making memories was the most important thing to him, and we have many special ones together as a family.
He is survived by his wife, Elaine; daughter, Juliane Yale; son-in-law, James Yale; grandchildren: James II and Laura Yale; Nathan and Candy Turner, Ryan and Jackie Yale; Nicholas and Brittani Yale; and 10 great-grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Julia Nielsen; brother, Verl Nielsen; and one great grandchild, Sara Yale.
Funeral Services will be held Tuesday, July 5, 2016 at Jenkins-Soffe Mortuary 4760 South State Street, Murray, Utah. Viewing will be held from 12-1:45 pm with services following immediately after from 2-3 pm. Burial will take place at Murray City Cemetery immediately following the services. Full military honors will be provided in honoring Conrad for his service in the Air Force.
The family wishes to thank the doctors and nursing staff at Intermountain Medical Center and Jenkins-Soffe Mortuary for helping us care and get through this time with our dear husband, dad, and grandpa. We also wish to thank our extended family and friends for always being there for Conrad.
In lieu of flowers, Conrad would like donations sent to the Jordan M. Byrd, Tooele County Chapter #20, Disabled American Veterans. Please Send Donations to: DAV CHAPTER #20, P.O. Box 681, Tooele, Utah 84074.
