Daniel Hsiao

–

Murray, Utah

Daniel Hsiao, 73, passed away in Murray, Utah on May 2, 2022, after a courageous battle with cancer. He lived a life of miracles, for which he was very grateful.

Daniel was born in 1949 in China, where he was the fifth of six children raised by a schoolteacher and an army general. He was very blessed to have kind siblings who lovingly looked after him despite many challenges. This was his life’s first miracle.

When Daniel was 19, two sister missionaries from the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints shared some good news that brightened his life and his view of the future. That was his life’s second miracle.

For college, Daniel attended Feng Chia University in Taichung, Taiwan, where he fell in love with the loveliest girl in school, Alice. They married in 1977. This was his third miracle.

Daniel and Alice relocated to Utah, where Daniel earned a master’s degree in engineering from Brigham Young University, and together they had five wonderful children, each of whom Daniel was immensely proud. That was his fourth miracle.

Each of their children found an awesome spouse, with amazing in-laws, and in total welcomed 10 precious grandchildren. Daniel had no greater joy than to see his children’s families “walking in truth.” They were his fifth miracle.

Daniel remained a faithful church member after his conversion, serving in many volunteer positions, including as a counselor in the bishopric of his local congregation as well as a counselor in the temple presidency of the Taipei, Taiwan LDS temple during a service mission with his wife. It was his honor to serve with many modern “Mormon pioneers.” This mission was his life’s sixth miracle.

Professionally, Daniel designed bridges for the Utah Department of Transportation, from which he retired in 2014. He enjoyed having good colleagues and many great neighbors in the communities where he lived. Daniel was immeasurably enriched by warm friends and extended family who brought much joy to his life and to the lives of his family members. These associations were his life’s seventh miracle.

Additionally, Daniel experienced countless other miracles, which he saw everywhere in God’s creation. He witnessed miracles in birds, in beautiful flowers, and in fruit trees. May we all live lives of millions of miracles.

Daniel is survived by his wife, children and their spouses, and grandchildren. He is also survived by his siblings and many beloved nieces and nephews. Daniel is preceded in death by his parents and a dear niece.

Daniel’s survivors wish to thank the dedicated medical team of the Huntsman Cancer Institute for their compassionate care and devoted service.
