On Sunday morning, August 28th our beloved family matriarch took her final breath in this human world. She passed on to a new life, one that she remembers from long ago -a place full of familiar faces that she has not seen in quite some time. She was embraced in the loving arms of our savior Jesus Christ and happily greeted by all those who proceeded her: Parents (Bill Stewart & Anna Laura Gallup –Stewart), 12 older siblings (Everett, Lena, Stella, Dawn, Jerry, Denny, Edna, Bernice, Kenny(nephew), Teddy, and Vernie), and her only son (Gerald Stone aka: FreeBird).\n\nHer legacy of strong will, love for family and faith continue to live on through her daughter (Tonja Stone-Paxton), 8 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, 9 great-great grandchildren and all those many loving friends she recognized as extended family along her journey of life.\n\nDarlene was born a “Dust Bowl Baby”. The youngest of 11 babies born in her family home on the farm located in Logan County, CO on February 4, 1933. As a young child, she attended a one room schoolhouse until the family sold the farm and moved to “town” (Sterling, CO). Her independent, hard-working nature was evident early in life. She would tell her grandchildren of the dirt floors she would sweep when she was less than 6 years old (because of the Dust Bowl storms) –she just thought they had dirt floors. Once she moved to town as a young teen, she found her first paying job at the age of 13; thus the grown beautiful, dependable woman was born.\n\nDarlene was a cherished member of so many communities. She was a genuine care-giver who would be the first to jump in if you needed help –especially if it was for household assistance or childcare. She will forever be remembered for her incredible natural music talent and fantastic scratch recipe cooking. What we all wouldn’t give for just one more serving of Turkey Noodles!\n\nAlthough she never had a single piano lesson in her life, she could entertain you with her piano playing and beautiful song for hours on end. Amongst her favorite genre to play: boogie-woogie honky tonk blues and Christian hymns.\n\nPlease join us for services on Saturday; September 3, 2022\nJenkins-Soffe Funeral Chapel\n4760 South State Street\nMurray, UT 84107\nViewing: 2:00 – 2:45pm\nService: 3:00pm\n\nDarlene is going home to rest in Sterling, CO.
