David Johnson

–

West Jordan, Utah

On Sunday, September 17, 2023, I said “Goodbye” to my best friend and beloved husband, David Scott Johnson, after a 5-week stay in the hospital.

Dave was born to Delbert Scott Johnson and Doris Bender Johnson on July 19, 1941, in Bakersfield, California. He was raised in Whittier, California, until 1954 when his father died. He and his mother then moved to Wisconsin to be near family. Dave graduated from Durand High School in 1959 and from the University of Wisconsin-Stout in 1963.

Following graduation, he moved to Salt Lake City where he taught at the new Highland High School and Glendale Middle School for the next 33 years. While teaching at Glendale, he met Betty Gibson. They were married in 1986 and later sealed for time and all eternity in the Jordan River Temple.

Both Dave and Betty converted to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in 1965 – Betty in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and Dave in Salt Lake City, Utah.

Dave was a compassionate, caring, and hard-working man. His integrity and sense of humor were well known to all. He loved to travel – especially road trips, photography, reading, fishing, gardening, and helping others were his hobbies.

He served in the Sunday School Presidency, the High Priest Quorum Presidency, many missionary callings, and his favorite- Ward and Stake Building Facility Manager with his dear friend, Glen Flitton.

He was preceded in death by his parents and parents-in-law. He is survived by his wife, Betty; his brother-in-law, Clyde (Joetta) Gibson; nephew, Aaron (Marci) Gibson; great nieces, nephews, and cousins. In addition, he is known as Uncle Dave and Grandpa Johnson to many.

Until we meet again, Good-bye my dear Dave.
