Deloris "Dee" Ruth Malmstrom Mecham Obituary (1930 - 2018)

Deloris Ruth Malmstrom was born to Clifford Jacob Malmstrom and Ruth Bagshaw Jones in Salt Lake City, Utah. Deloris was a loving, stay-at-home mother who worked diligently to train her children in becoming good citizens to make their lives helpful, useful and willing to serve others. She enjoyed camping and fishing with her family. Many thanks to her many friends and neighbors over many decades of friendship. Dee graduated from Granite High School in 1980 after she had seen all of her children graduate. Mom always loved visiting with family and friends—especially her grand and great-grandkids. Dee met her true love, Jay L. Mecham, and they were married on February 14, 1947. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple on October 8, 1951. They were married for 69 years, 11 months and 349 days until Jay passed away (graduated) January 27, 2017. Dee was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many positions including Den Mother, YW Teacher, Relief Society Secretary, Visiting Teacher Coordinator, and Visiting Teacher. Dee is survived by her sons: Robert (Karen), Bruce (Ann), Gale (Devona), Douglas (Dena); daughter, Melanie (John); 21 grandchildren; and 33 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by a sister-in-law, Claire Malmstrom. She is preceded in death by her loving husband, Jay; her parents; 4 sisters; 1 brother; daughter-in-law, Janet; and grandchildren, Elizabeth, Richard and Gale Jr. A special thank you to the staffs of Pheasant View Assisted Living (Layton) and Carrington Court Assisted Living (South Jordan) for the many hours of service they provided to mom. Also a very special thank you to her hospice nurses, Mindy H. and A.J. of Active Hospice in Salt Lake. A viewing will be Thursday, March 29, 2018, from 6-8 p.m. at Jenkins-Soffe Mortuary, 4760 S. State Street, Murray, UT. The funeral service will be Friday, March 30, 2018, at 12 noon at the Winder 4th LDS Ward, 951 E. 3825 S., with a viewing from 11:00-11:45 a.m. at the church prior to services.
