Dennis Roger Platt was born on March 26, 1943 in Murray, Utah, to Cecil James Platt and Alice Virginia Sheppard Platt. He passed away peacefully at home on November 21, 2019, with his wife and children by his side, after many years of compounding health challenges.\r\n\r\nDennis grew up on a ranch in the East Murray area with his parents and his older brother, David. He graduated from Granite High School where he played football for Coach La Vell Edwards. Dennis had a deep fondness for Coach Edwards and always said that Coach taught him more about life than the game of football.\r\n\r\nDennis enlisted in the United States Air Force in 1961 at the age of 18, and served honorably for four years, followed by a 31-year career in law enforcement, the majority of which was spent with the Utah Highway Patrol.\r\n\r\nDennis had two children (Kevin and Katy) from a previous marriage, but his family was finally complete when he married his sweetheart, Margo Johnson (“Maggy J.”), on March 19, 1986 inside the chambers of the Utah Supreme Court. \r\n\r\nHis passions included guns, photography, Ford pickup trucks, and above all, GOLF. Dennis had the opportunity to play golf all over the United States and accomplished the feats of three holes-in-one and three double eagles. His favorite playing partners were his wife and son. After reuniting with his beloved family in heaven, his first question surely must have been, “Which way to the golf course?”\r\n\r\nDennis spent his final weeks surrounded by his friends and family. Reliving funny memories with his wife and children brought smiles and comfort, and listening to songs on the ukulele and bedtime stories from his cherished grandchildren made it all complete.\r\n\r\nHe is survived by his wife, Margo Platt; son, Kevin Platt; daughter, Kathryn Platt (Shepherd); his much-loved grandchildren, Dillon Shepherd and Madeline Shepherd; and many special nieces and nephews and other extended family.\r\n\r\nA viewing will be held on Monday evening, November 25, 2019, from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. at Jenkins Soffe Mortuary, located at 4760 South State Street in Murray, Utah. Funeral services will be Tuesday, November 26, 2019, at 11:00 a.m. at the Union 6th Ward meeting house, located at 1433 E. Old Mission Road (8020 S.). Friends and family may visit from 10:00 – 10:45 a.m. prior to the service.
