Deward McCain Kropf Obituary (1921 - 2006)

Deward “Dewey” McCain Kropf celebrated his own Independence Day as his adventuring spirit left his worn body and joined his family. Deward was the last of eleven siblings to join their parents in the hereafter. We know there was a grand reunion as his family was reunited for the first time in over 52 years. Dewey was born on April 23, 1921 to Albert and Cordelia Kropf. He entered the United States Army in October 1942. While in the proximity of Batosgne, he was hit by machine gun fire in both arms. He married Edna Jenkins in 1949; they were later divorced. He worked diligently at sundry jobs, but specifically 25 years at the Veterans Hospital. Upon retiring in 1984, Dewey moved to Kanab, Utah to be close to his brother Roy and his sister-in-law Barbara. In 1965 he began lending assistance on his own time in locating missing and downed aircraft, and in helping to recover many missing persons. He proudly belonged to “Alert of Utah - Search and Rescue”. Over the next 36 years he received many letters of thanks and commendation for his many hours of service in this pursuit. Dewey was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. He was preceded in death by his parents, his five brothers, his five sisters, and nine of their spouses. He survived by his sister-in-law Barbara Ann Kropf, and numerous nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank the staff at the Veteran’s Nursing Home, for the compassionate and loving care they provided Dewey for the final 18 months of his life. Graveside services will be held Saturday, July 8, 2006, 3:00 pm at the South Jordan City Cemetery, 10650 South 1055 West. Friends and family may call Saturday July 8, 2006 from 1:30-2:30 pm at Jenkins-Soffe South Valley, 1007 W. South Jordan Parkway (10600 So.).
