Our dad, Don Gordon Voorhees passed away peacefully on November 10, 2022.\n\nDon was born in Manti, Utah on September 15, 1927, the 7th of 8 children, to Henry and Aileen Voorhees. Don grew up in Manti where he loved the life afforded in the farm and ranching community. Dad often said that “you can take the boy out of Manti, but you can’t take Manti out of the boy”. After graduating from Manti High School, Dad attended BYU for a year before enlisting in the Navy. Following two years in the Navy, he returned to BYU and completed his education with a Bachelor’s Degree in business and accounting. \n\nNearing graduation from BYU Dad met the love of his life, our mother, Darlene Schow. They were married in the Salt Lake City Temple on June 29, 1951. Don was active in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints where, among other callings, he served as Bishop, Stake High Counselor, and Senior Missionary. Most of Dad’s efforts in the Church were behind the scenes where he served many in need without any recognition – the way he wanted.\n\nDon had a full career with the Proctor & Gamble Company. While at P&G, he progressed through the sales and marketing divisions of the company to District Sales Manager. During his career, he had assignments in Utah, California, Texas, Ohio, Nebraska, and Colorado.\nDad knew the value of hard work and instilled that virtue in his family. He taught by example that if we worked hard, then we would enjoy the fun. Don was known for his integrity and had no reservations about standing up for his beliefs in any situation. \n\nHe also enjoyed the outdoors. Early in his life he fell in love with skiing and continued skiing whenever he could well into his 60’s. When we were old enough, he taught us how to ski and as a family, many winter Saturdays were spent on skis in the Colorado Rockies.\n\nDon is survived by sons Gordon (Pam) of Littleton, CO, Tom of Sioux Falls, SD, Sheree Green (Scott) of South Jordan, UT, and Jeff of St. George, UT. Dad was blessed with 17 grandchildren and 25 great grandchildren.\n\nA viewing will be from 6:00 – 8:00 pm, Wednesday evening, November 16, 2022, at the Jenkins-Soffe Funeral Home – South Valley location, 1007 S Jordan Parkway, South Jordan, Utah. At Dad’s request, there will be no funeral service.
