Donald (Don) Knapp

South Jordan, Utah

Donald Francis Knapp, was born October, 19th 1952 to Donald Walter Knapp and Shirley (Sawyer) in San Francisco, California. He passed away at home on November 19th 2024, after bravely facing recent health challenges.

He grew up in Pacifica California where he excelled in many sports, especially basketball. He was very involved in church sports and soon became a devoted member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. He married the love of his life when he was 26. They were sealed in the Salt Lake Temple. He graduated from Utah State University and taught and coached at Kearns High School for most of his thirty year career in education. He loved coaching and working with kids.

He loved anything outdoors. He grew up surfing in the Pacific Ocean and swimming in the Russian River. He took his family camping every summer. He loved going with his grandkids to the lake and floating, kayaking or paddle boarding. Every vacation had to have water.

Don was very outgoing. He never met a person that he didn’t like. He had a great sense of humor that will be missed.

Our Dad will be severely missed by all of us.

His greatest accomplishment was being a husband, father and Papa. He loved hard, with all his heart. When you got a hug, he would hug your whole soul. He taught us about hard work, kindness and service through his example. He was selfless, always putting his family and others above all else.

Don will always be remembered by his loving wife of 46 years, Cari; his children, Dawn (Quinn) Loertscher, Cassity (Tyson) Sandlund, Becca (David) Rogers and Allie (Brad) Polokoff; his grandchildren, Zac Polokoff, Alyssa Polokoff, Ash Loertscher, Peyton Sandlund, Brielle Loertscher, Cache Sandlund, Sawyer Rogers, Charlie Rogers, Huntley Sandlund and Presley Rogers. He is also survived by his brother Jerry Knapp of Sacramento California. He was preceded in death by this parents Donald and Shirley Knapp; his siblings Tom, Paul and Sharon; and his grandson Cooper Sandlund.

A special thank you to all the health care providers that helped us navigate this unplanned journey and especially to his home health nurses Hillary Beaudreau and Steve Mecham; and Ron Christensen, his physical therapist for their help and compassion.

Please join us on Monday November 25th at 12:00 at the Heber North Stake Center 521 East 500 North to celebrate his life.
