Donald Rex McGhie, our cherished Father, Grandfather, Great-Grandfather and Friend, passed away at home June 4, 2012, surrounded by his family. He was born March 25, 1925 in SLC and was the youngest of 5 children born to Maude Fisher & Jessie Earl McGhie. He grew up in SLC and graduated from South High School. After high school, he joined the Army and served in the 69th Infantry Division during World War II. Upon returning from the war he met and married his eternal sweetheart Mary Louise Woodward in the Salt Lake Temple. They were happily married for 57 years.
He was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus of Latter-day Saints and loved serving as an executive secretary to 3 wonderful bishops. He worked for Custom Furniture for 7 years and Mortensen Furniture for 30 years as an upholsterer. His beautiful upholstery is found in our homes and in many temples. He was an avid hunter, fisherman and loved the outdoors. He cherished his family and friends and supported them in everything they did. He taught us many things in his quiet, tender way.
Survived by his son Ron McGhie; daughters Jone (John) Cluff, Kathy (Dave) Patterson and Stacy (Jerry) Krahenbuhl; 16 grandchildren, 33 great-grandchildren and his faithful little companion Cooper. Preceded in death by his wife Louise, parents, brothers Jay, Glen and Rulon & sister Lois
The family wishes to express their sincerest thanks to CNS Hospice who so lovingly and professionally attended to Dad during his last days.
