South Jordan, Utah
Dorienne Despain Higgins passed away peacefully October 21st, 2026, in South Jordan, Utah, surrounded by her family.
Dorienne was born February 29th, 1936, to Owen and Lois Despain. As a leap year baby, she enjoyed special birthday celebrations, especially her 16th birthday, which she celebrated while she was on a Senior mission. Dorienne graduated from Jordan High School, where she was given the nickname "Diz." She loved to play the piano, was a gifted seamstress, and was very crafty. She personally crafted Christmas gifts for her posterity nearly every year, including for this year.
Dorienne married her best friend, Clifton D. Higgins, when she was 18. While they were engaged, they started to build a home in Granite, Utah. This became their home for 58 years. They raised their five children, as well as cared for their aging parents, in the same home.
She had a love of gardening—not only of fruits and vegetables, but of flowers and shrubs. Weeds and leaves would bother her, so she kept her yard clean.
In 2012, Dorienne and Clifton sold their dream home to downsize and move closer to their family in South Jordan. Finding a home near the Jordan River Temple, they began living in that home and enjoyed five wonderful years before Clifton passed away. Dorienne continued to live there until she passed away.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Owen and Lois Despain; her brothers, Claire (Lynette) Despain, and Tom (Renee) Despain; and two great grandsons.
She is survived by her five children: JanL Schow (Bruce), Cory D. Higgins (Ruth), Ronda Campbell (Scott), Trent J. Higgins (LeAnn), and Kayleen Berenson (Scott). Dorienne had 26 grandchildren, 67 great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren, with two more posterity on the way.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, October 31, 2026 at 11:00 am at the River Ridge 8th Ward, 1409 W. Shields Lane, South Jordan, Utah, with a viewing from 9:30 – 10:30 am. Interment at Granite Cemetery.
Her legacy of love for her family and love of the Lord will continue with us for many years to come. We will miss her greatly but are happy to know she is in Heaven with those who have proceeded her in death.
