Dorthie Conway Obituary (1927 - 2022)

Beloved wife, aunt, great-aunt, and friend to many, Dorthie Tsutsuko Conway passed away with family members by her side on July 19, 2022. She was born March 5, 1927 in Salt Lake City, Utah to Tamae and Kaita Miyake. She was married to her partner, Jim Conway, on May 15, 1965. Dorthie loved to bowl, golf, fish and most of all, her shopping trips with her sister Merrie. She also cherished the time that she spent with her friends and family. Most of all, she loved to spend time with Jim and frequently spoke of her memories of the time that they were together after his passing. Dorthie was a devout member of the Japanese Church of Christ and loved to serve the other members of the congregation. Dorthie grew up during a difficult time for our country but, despite the challenges that she faced, became a very successful business woman along-side of her best friend and husband Jim. As was the case in her youth, Dorthie’s final days were challenging as she broke her hip and was primarily confined to her bed. Although she was not able to continue with her very active life, it was a time that she grew to recognize and enjoy the people around her. She enjoyed the many visits from family and friends, enjoyed having her great-grandnephews snuggle on the bed beside her and feeding Clarence and Zuko dog treats (on occasion, she was caught enjoying one with them)! Dorthie appreciated the time she had to visit with her sister Miyako, sister-in-law Yoshi, and step-son Jimmy. She also had a great love for her nieces Kim Doi and Kristy Scott and recognized their great sacrifice to provide loving care and companionship. The family would also like to extend special thanks to Meghan, Natalie, Doug and Dr. Brunker who provided excellent health and hospice care for her. Dorthie is survived by sisters, Miyako, Agnes and Yoshi; step children, James, Jr. (Paula), Linda Johnson (Ferron) and Barney (Kathy); and many loving nieces and nephews. Dorthie was preceded in death by Jim; sisters, Merrie and Anna; and brothers, Yoshiteru and Jack. At Dorthie’s request, a family graveside service will be held. In lieu of flowers, make a contribution to the Japanese Church of Christ or a charity of your choice.
