Edward Steven Lence

February 28, 1951 – October 17, 2026

Edward Steven Lence, 75, passed away unexpectedly on October 17, 2026, leaving behind a lifetime of creativity, cherished memories, and a family who loved him.

Born on February 28, 1951, in Washington, D.C., to Winston and Geraldine Lence, Edward was a man of quiet charm, remarkable creativity, and a wonderfully unique sense of humor. While he may not have been the loudest person in the room, those who knew him discovered a man with an incredible imagination, a playful spirit, and a gift for seeing the world a little differently.

A talented artist and designer, Edward spent much of his career bringing imagination and creativity to life. His artistic abilities led him to work for Disney, where he helped design EPCOT, as well as Boeing and other companies where his eye for detail and unique perspective made his work stand out. During his time at Beehive International, he received awards for his computer illustrations, combining his love of art with his fascination for design and technology.

Edward’s creativity extended well beyond his career. He loved science fiction, classic movies, cars, and art books. He especially enjoyed watching Star Trek each week and was a fan of Star Wars, finding joy in imaginative worlds, and unforgettable characters. He also enjoyed being part of a car modeling club and had a wonderful way of becoming completely immersed in whatever happened to capture his interest. His curiosity was endless, his interests varied, and his appreciation for the little details of life made him uniquely himself. Whether it was the familiar words “Live long and prosper” or “May the Force be with you,” these stories and hobbies were part of the things he loved and shared with those around him.

Though naturally quiet, Edward had a delightfully quirky side. He loved doing Disney character voices for his children and grandchildren and had a way of surprising those around him with an unexpected impression or bits of humor. These small, playful moments became some of the things his family loved most about him.

Edward was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and generously shared his talents in service to others. He served in the Sunday School presidency, created the monthly ward newsletter, and helped design and build floats for Primary and stake Pioneer Day parades. One of his favorite callings was serving as a Webelos leader while living in Washington. Working with those young boys brought him a special kind of joy and gave him another opportunity to share his creativity.

On January 9, 1976, Edward married his beautiful wife, Norma, in the Salt Lake Temple, where they were sealed for time and all eternity. Together, they built a life centered on family, faith, and love.

Of all the things Edward accomplished and created, his family was his greatest treasure. He is lovingly remembered by his wife, Norma; his children, Steven (Tami), Sarah (Dan), and Laurie (Rich); his nine grandchildren and two grandchildren-in-law; and his brother, Russell (Kathy) Lence. He especially loved being surrounded by his grandchildren, enjoying their company and sharing the playful, imaginative side of himself that made him so special.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Winston and Geraldine Lence.

Edward’s life was a beautiful combination of imagination, faith, quiet kindness, and love. He leaves behind more than the art he created or the projects he designed. He leaves a family who will forever remember his quiet presence, his unexpected humor, his endless curiosity, and, of course, those unforgettable Disney voices.

For a man who spent his life bringing imagination to life, perhaps his greatest masterpiece was the family and memories he leaves behind.

And as we say goodbye to someone who loved exploring galaxies far, far away and boldly going where no one had gone before, we take comfort in knowing that his own journey continues beyond what we can see.

Live long and prosper, and May the Force be with you. Until we meet again.
