She grew up in the Rexburg area and was an honor student at Madison High School. She graduated in 1945 as class valedictorian and was accepted into the United States Cadet Nurse Corps. This federal nurse training program allowed young women to serve their country in uniform and without discrimination during World War II and afforded Elda the opportunity to attend the University of Utah College of Nursing in Salt Lake City.\r\n\r\nShe met Calvin F. Boren while she was in nurses training and after her graduation they were married in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple on December 15, 1948.\r\nElda loved her career as a registered nurse and worked at Madison Memorial Hospital in Rexburg for many years. She started part time in the operating room so she could be home with her children when they were young and retired as Director of Surgical Services. She was recently inducted into the University of Utah College of Nursing Half Century Society.\r\nHer life was filled with service to her family, friends, and others. Elda was a active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and held many positions of service and leadership, mostly in Relief Society. She also served in PTA and several other civic organizations. She was an avid reader and loved to learn. She spent many hours working on genealogy and enjoyed knitting, sewing, needlepoint, cooking, gardening, and traveling. She loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.\r\n\r\nShe is survived by her son, Gary Boren, of San Francisco, California; daughter, Lisa (John) Maddux, of Park City, Utah; sister, Rosemary Yerke, of Blackfoot, Idaho; brother, Rex (Majken) Bood, of Auburn, Wyoming; brother-in-law, Wendel Lewis, of Menan, Idaho; and two grandchildren, Tyra Maddux, of Salt Lake City and TJ Maddux, of Park City. \r\n\r\nShe was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Calvin Boren; son, Stephen Boren; brothers, Leo and Warren Bood; sister, Sharon Lewis; sister-in-law, Esther Bood; brother-in-law, Walter Yerke; and nephew, Roger Yerke.\r\n\r\nFuneral service will be held at 1:00 pm, Wednesday, December 26, 2018, at Jenkins-Soffe Mortuary, 4760 S.
