One of God’s Master Gardners returned home to his Father in Heaven July 25, 2007. Eldon Clark Gibby passed away at his home with loving family around him from causes incident to age.
Eldon was born in Roy, Utah on November 22, 1912, the son of William R. Gibby and Clara R. Putnam. He grew up in the city of Roy where the family had farm land, growing fruits and vegetables. He was taught how to work hard, and to always take pride in what he did. He never forgot these lessons, and was a hard worker all his life. He married the love of his life, Barbara Marion Allen on February 18, 1935, and they have spent 72 years together, making their home in South Salt Lake. Their marriage was solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple for Time and Eternity May 18, 1996 with all five sons and their wives with them.
Eldon worked for Safeway Stores for thirty years. His most beloved activity was his yard and gardens. He had the most beautiful flower gardens in Salt Lake Valley, and he grew the most delicious vegetables you have ever tasted. Eldon would spend hours and hours working in his yard never tiring of the work, and always sharing the beautiful flowers, and the delicious vegetables with his neighbors, friends, and family. Eldon also spent many hours working in the flower beds of the Millcreek Ward Meeting House making that a place of beauty and pleasure for anyone stopping in or just going by.
Eldon is survived by his lovely wife; Barbara, five sons; Ronald (Wilma) Saratoga Springs, Richard (Evelyn) Farmington, Robert (NaDine) South Jordan, Steve (Becky) West Jordan and Jerry (Zoe) Frisco, Texas; 23 grandchildren; 37 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers; Everett and Clarence, a sister-in-law, Sarah; and two great grandsons.
The family would like to express a special Thank You to his Home Care person, Sandy, for her loving and gentle ways. She treated him like a father and watched over him carefully always going the extra mile. The family also thanks Community Nursing services for their loving hospice care during the final days of Eldon’s life upon the earth.
