July 9, 1962 – January 2, 2020
Ellis E. Swindle passed away at his home January 2, 2020 after a determined and courageous five-year battle with cancer.
Ellis was born in Salt Lake City, July 9, 1962 to Emil Swindle and Terry Robinson Swindle and was the eldest of three children. He was a life-long resident of Salt Lake City and attended schools in the Salt Lake City School District.
At a young age he displayed a talent for music and a remarkable memory for the lyrics and melodies of songs he heard on the radio. Even though his mother had a limited income, she bought him a piano and paid for piano lessons so he could develop his musical talents. He continued his love of music throughout his life, acquiring an extensive collection of records, tapes, and CD’s.
In addition to his musical interests, Ellis read extensively and watched a variety of informational programs on television. His expansive vocabulary and knowledge base reflected those interests. He could discuss current events, history, and medical subjects with anyone.
Ellis had a variety of activities he enjoyed. He relished visits to his mother’s hometown of Torrey, Utah especially the family farm. Hiking, camping, and eating good food were other activities he enjoyed. He was known for using his great sense of humor to get people laughing.
Ellis was a long-time employee in customer service at Blue Cross Blue Shield. One of his co-workers said he was great at his job.
Ellis’s survivors include his sister, Jhana Swindle and her significant other, Travis Christensen; as well as aunts, uncles, and many cousins. His parents and brother, Mark Swindle preceded him in death. He is also preceded in death by his great aunt and uncle, Elma and Larry Bracy who were like his second parents.
Thanks to Dr. Justin Call, nurses, and staff at Utah Cancer Specialists and Dr. Abby Crume and Associates for the care they gave Ellis during his cancer treatments. Thanks also to CNS hospice, as well as relatives and friends who helped him during the last several years. Thanks especially to Sherrie Sellers and Margie Robinson for the special care they gave Ellis.
