Enid Bennett Riches Jacklin Obituary (1921 - 2012)

Enid Bennett Riches Jacklin passed on to the next step in her eternal progress on April 20, 2012. She was an exceptionally devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She was born in Salt Lake City, Utah on November 7, 1921, the oldest child of Lawrence Booth Riches and Alice Ann Bennett Riches. She had eight siblings. Enid graduated from Granite High School and was always proud to be a "Fighting Farmer". She majored in business classes and also graduated from Henager Business College before starting a secretarial career, first at Lang Company and later at KSL Radio Station. Throughout her life she was very interested and active in music and theatricals and her abilities and activities in sewing and crocheting were widely appreciated. She was sensitive in finding those she could help and her love for others was constantly demonstrated in service to those around her. She was an enthusiastic member of the Church of Jesus Christ of latter Day Saints, and soon after World War II served a mission in the Central States Mission of that church. On November 26, 1947 she was married to Earl Marvin Jacklin in the Salt Lake LDS Temple and started a second 64-year career as a wife and mother. Her first years of married life were devoted to helping Earl graduate from the University of Utah, which was finally accomplished in June of 1954. The family then moved to Southern California where a career opportunity for Earl opened. Enid was very active in church organizations and held many responsible positions in the Primary and Relief Society. During her later years she was a member and officer in the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers. After her children were partially grown, Enid started working for the Church Education System as an Institute secretary and later for the BYU Southern California Area Office. She retired from CES in 1987. Earl also retired that year and in 1989-90 they served as senior couple missionaries in the Anaheim, California Mission. When that mission was completed it was decided to move back to Utah after 37 years in California. Enid is survived by her husband, children Judith Johnson, Boyd Jacklin (Janet), Alice McNulty, Larry Jacklin (Coleen), Blaine Jacklin (Dee Ann), Val Jacklin (Sherri) and Bonnie Harding (Robert), twenty two grandchildren and thirty great grandchildren. She is also survived by siblings Joyce Locke, Barbara Cooper, Byron Riches, Diane Braithwaite and Mark Riches. She was pre-deceased by her parents and siblings Lawrence (Bud) Riches, Doris Wood and Afton Riches. Funeral services will be held at 11 am, Saturday, April 28th at the Sandy Canyon View Stake Center, 9119 South 1300 East, Sandy, Utah. Family and friends visitation will be held on Friday evening from 6 to 8 pm at the Jenkins-Soffe Mortuary, 1047 South Jordan Parkway and at the church prior to the funeral from 9:30 to 10:30 am. Internment will be at the Elysian Burial Gardens, 1075 East 4580 South, Salt Lake City.
