ERIK JOSEPH GILLETTE
1997-2026
Erik was born in Long Beach, California on October 2, 1997. His birth mother made the unselfish decision to place her newborn son with a loving family. On October 3, 1997, Erik became part of his forever family with Steven, Cynthia and James.
Erik was a very happy and outgoing child. He began playing the clarinet at the age of eight and went on to become a highly accomplished musician. Erik’s diverse interests included the art of magic, chess, rock climbing, and playing baseball throughout his youth.
Erik achieved his Eagle Scout and focused his service project on supporting service members and their families.
Erik’s dedication to service began during his time as an EMT. He enlisted in the U.S. Army to advance his career as a Certified Flight Paramedic (FP-C). Erik was recognized on the Dean’s List for academic achievement and earned multiple military decorations for his service, including Army Achievement Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism SM Service Medal and Amy Service Ribbon.
Erik’s love for nature and animals was reflected in his volunteer work, particularly at Ruff Haven Crisis Sheltering in Salt Lake City.
Erik was preceded in death by his beloved father, Steven. He leaves behind his mother, Cynthia, his brother James, his devoted extended family in Kentucky and California, and numerous friends and family members who loved him dearly.
Erik was laid to rest on March 5, 2026, at the Veterans Cemetery & Memorial Park in Bluffdale, Utah. Memorial gifts may be directed to Ruff Haven Crisis Sheltering to honor Erik’s passion for helping dogs.
