Erwin Linford Henderson Obituary (1939 - 2019)

"Lin" 1939 – 2019 Lin Henderson, 80, passed away peacefully at his home in Millcreek, Utah, on November 3, 2019. Lin was born on March 29, 1939 at his grandparents’ home in Salt Lake City, Utah, to Erwin C. Henderson and Twila Linford Henderson. He lived his early years on the family farm in Clifton, Idaho where he attended elementary school. His family moved to Downey, Idaho when he was 11 years old. He graduated from Marsh Valley High School in 1956. Shortly after graduating from high school, he met his future wife, JoAnn Christensen, on a blind date. That fall, he enrolled at Idaho State College and attended there for two years. On September 12, 1958, he married his sweetheart, JoAnn, in the Logan, Utah Temple. They made their home in Salt Lake where he attended the University of Utah and graduated with honors with a Bachelor of Science degree in electrical engineering. He worked for the Benton Corporation for 49 years and retired in 2007. Lin loved to build things and use his hands. The summer before he was married, he helped his parents build a home in Downey, Idaho. He also built three different homes for his family in 1963, 1973 and his last home in 1993. He dedicated his life to serving others. He was always available to assist anyone who needed his help, no matter what time of day or night. He loved spending time with his family, especially in the great outdoors. Camping trips, snowmobiling, motorcycling, and hiking were favorite activities. Lin was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in numerous callings, but his favorite calling was Scout Master. He mentored dozens of young men throughout the time he was involved in scouts. He took his scouts on many hikes and camping trips. He earned the District Award of Merit and received the Silver Beaver Award. Lin loved to climb mountains. He climbed Mt. Olympus and Mt. Timpanogos several times, Kings Peak, Mt. Washington, and to the bottom of the Grand Canyon and back. He had excellent health and was very active until 1993 when he was diagnosed with cancer. Since that time, he suffered with numerous health problems from which he would always bounce back. He was called the Energizer Bunny because he kept going, and going, and going. Lin is preceded in death by his parents and infant brother, Grant. He is survived by his loving wife, JoAnn of 61 years, and his children, Jolyn (Dennis) Dickerson, Murray, Utah; Michael (Charmon) Henderson, Sandy, Utah; Lisa (Mark) Hewitson, Murray, Utah; and Steven Henderson, Millcreek, Utah. He is also survived by 16 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren. The family would like to give thanks to everyone at the Intermountain Dialysis Center, Granger Clinic, and Inspiration Hospice for their loving and gentle care. A viewing will be held on Friday, November 8, 2019, 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Jenkins-Soffe Mortuary, 4760 S. State St., Murray, Utah. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, November 9th, 10:30 a.m., at the Winder 7th Ward, 4350 S. 1100 E., where a viewing will be held one hour prior to the service.
