To view a video tribute for Ethel Esther Nakken Taylor, please click here. Ethel Esther Nakken Taylor, 86, died Thursday, February 2, 2006 from complications of a brain tumor. She was born March 27, 1919, daughter of Gradus John Nakken and Anna Ottilie Hillert Nakken in Salt Lake City, Utah. She married Jesse Fox Taylor on August 21, 1946 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple being sealed by President Harold B. Lee. She graduated from East High School and attended LDS Business College. She and her husband moved to Idaho where they reared their family--first in Burley and then in Blackfoot where she truly felt among friends. She was an active member of the LDS church, serving a mission in the Central States Mission. She served in many church callings and was well-known for her vast knowledge and strong testimony of the gospel. Music played a great part in her life, singing lead parts in operettas in school. Besides serving in numerous music callings, she made sure each of her children learned to play an instrument. She also helped many of her grandchildren learn music as well. She was very active in PTA, teaching music and helping with activities in school. The highlight for the kids was at Halloween when she dressed up as the scary Witch bringing her black cat and goodies to school. She was an avid reader and loved to do temple work. She loved swimming in the Jordan River when she was young. She always said she was thankful to be reared in an old-fashioned family with loving parents who taught her good values with faith and prayer. She was a strong, active woman who loved her family dearly. Animals were one of the most important things in her life and surrounded her continually. Hundreds of animals she cared for are waiting in heaven to greet her, while those still on earth look forward to being with her again. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Jesse; son, Harvey B. Taylor; grandson, David J. Egbert; sisters, Johanna and Frieda Nakken, Martha Butchereit, Pearl Bangerter, Sarah Brown, and brother Alma J. Nakken. She is survived by sons Brian L. Taylor (Lynn) of Beaver Dam, AZ; Craig D. Taylor of Salt Lake; and daughter Jackie T. Egbert (Richael) of Salt Lake; 10 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. Many thanks for all of the care, concern and compassionate services from friends, relatives and medical staff in Blackfoot, Idaho and Salt Lake City, Utah. A viewing will be held Monday, February 6, 2006 from 6-8 p.m. at the Jenkins-Soffe Mortuary, 4760 S. State, Murray. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, February 7, 2006 at 11:00 a.m. at the Union Fort 6th Ward, 6710 S. 1300 E. Midvale. A viewing will be held at 10:00 to 10: 45 a.m. Interment Elysian Burial Gardens.
