Murray, UT
Farrel passed away Feb. 26, 2006. She was born Feb.18, 1911 in Union, UT to Rudolph Oliver and Clara Sabina Eckman Carlsen. Most of her youth and adulthood was spent in Murray, UT.
She shared her early life with four brothers and three sisters, and being the second oldest child was somewhat of a mother hen to her siblings. Grandma Carlsen told us, she liked to dance and met her husband-to-be, Elton Walter Palmer, at a dance and he danced his way into her heart. They were married in 1932 and were blessed with three children, Elton Reed Palmer, Gale LaVell Palmer, and a little girl who died at birth, shortly after Farrel’s husband, “Elt”, died in 1935.
She spent the next 71+ years raising her two boys and setting a good example for them. She never remarried even though she was proposed to five times. She said it was because she didn’t want to have some man mistreating her boys.
She worked many jobs, sometimes two at a time to provide for her boys. She was always helping people in her life, financially and otherwise. She had a great love of bowling, bowling once a perfect 300 game and earning over 200 trophies in her many of years of bowling. She also worked as a Temple worker in the Salt Lake Temple for 28 years, and told her boys of her many spiritual experiences there.
Life was hard for Farrel, but she always put others first—especially her boys. She was a great influence for good and service and love to all around her. Her boys have always said, that because of her example, they became what they are.
She leaves behind her two sons, Reed (Loa Fae) and Gale (Marjorie); 19 grandchildren;
30 great-grandchildren; 18 great-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Carol Reese and Louise Green.
Many thanks to those who have made her life great, and Murray Care Center, Evergreen Canyon Care Center, and Bennion Care Center.
