Frederick Thomas Armstrong, was Born July 6, 1948 in Greenwich, Ct. to Thomas and Mary Armstrong. Fred passed from this earth on May 29, 2022 in Salt Lake City, Utah. \n\nAt a young age, his family moved from Connecticut to Melbourne, FL. Where he spent all of his childhood years.\n\nFred loved sports, he was named MVP in high school athletics. Due to his outstanding sportsman like behavior as well as many other phenomenal characteristics, he was named a leader, and often called upon to assist.\n\nFred was offered a scholarship to Memphis State for his athletic abilities and leadership, shortly into his college career Fred was drafted into the United States Army; he courageously accepted the call to serve his country in the Vietnam War. Fred was wounded and returned home in 1970 a decorated combat veteran and Purple Heart recipient. \n\nFred married the true love of his life, Barbara, in 1974 in Melbourne, FL. Soon after, the two moved to Salt Lake City, Utah and Fred began his journey with the Salt Lake Water Department where he gained the respect of his co-workers and made many amazing lifelong friends. During this time, his dedication and love for his fellow Veterans drew him to offer his time and talent at the Utah VA as a mentor, coach and friend to so many of the wounded, Fred was a true HERO, in every sense of the word.\n\nFred is survived by his devoted wife Barbara, his son and best friend Ryan, his sons Davin, Brian and his baby girl Leslie. His four siblings Carol Reese, Mary Lou Maxwell, Debbie Armstrong and Tom Armstrong. Many nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews as well as hundreds of friends and extended family who will miss him terribly.\n\nFred Armstrong often suffered the trials of being a war veteran in silence, always offering a smile, a nod or a gently touch.\n\nFred is a hero! Rest in peace, Sargent Hardrock. .\n\nFuneral Services will be held Saturday, June 4, 2022 at the Suncrest Ward at 11:00 am, located at 5422 South Sarah Jane Drive, Kearns, Utah. A viewing will be held prior to the service from 10:00 – 10:45 am.
