Gail Smith

–

Riverton, Utah

Gail Smith graduated from this life to the next surrounded by her loved ones on Tuesday, July 16th 2024 at her home in Riverton, Utah. Gail was born August 24, 1965, in Salt Lake City. She was a beloved daughter of Kenneth and Juanita Moake Smith. Gail brought joy and happiness to everyone she met. Her smile and baby blue eyes were captivating.

She grew up in Holladay, Utah attending Cottonwood Elementary, Olympus Jr and Sr High School and graduated from Dixie College in St George, Utah. The things that brought Gail joy were being with family and friends, gardening, the outdoors, camping and being at home just chilling; always with a Diet Coke in hand.

Her testimony of a loving Heavenly Father and her Savior Jesus Christ was evident as she went about her everyday life. Gail served in many church callings, as Primary teacher, Relief Society President, Relief Society Teacher, Stake Primary President, and most recently as an Activity Days leader. She played the piano and had fond memories of accompanying her dad as he practiced singing.

Gail worked for 35 years at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in the HR department. She fostered many good friendships there. She served a mission for the Church in San Jose California where she established life-long friendships. Gail enjoyed her time as a camp counselor at Oakcrest where she loved sharing the gospel and creating lasting bonds with the young women and her fellow counselors.

Gail overcame many health issues from a young age and always believed in miracles. She suffered a ruptured appendix as a young girl. In her 20’s and 30’s she beat the odds and survived 3 separate bouts of Hodgkins Lymphoma, which ultimately required a bone marrow transplant. She also suffered from severe restless leg syndrome which became intolerable at times. More recently she was diagnosed with AML-ML Leukemia. Even with her positive attitude her compromised immune system could not sustain another successful fight.

Oh how she is loved and oh how she will be missed!

She is survived by her sister Diane Packard (Dwight), brothers Mark and Kevin (Zac), nieces Rebecca (Eric), Jessica (Jared) and Camilla (Christopher) and nephew Austin (Ashley). With 6 grand nieces and nephews. Also survived by her best friend and bonus sister Jolynn “JoJo” Johnson.

A celebration of her life will be held Monday July 22nd at 11:00 am at the Parkview Ward 12120 S 1300 W Riverton, UT 84065 with a visitation prior to the service from 10:00 am to 10:45 am. A visitation on Sunday July 21st will be held from 6:00 pm to 7:30 pm at Jenkins-Soffe Funeral Chapel at 1007 W South Jordan Pkwy South Jordan, UT 84095. Interment will be at Murray City Cemetery.

The family wishes to express their appreciation and love for her many caregivers over the years. Special mention to her BMT Doctor Gabriela Motyckova, personal infusion nurse (friend) Meg Franklin and Jolynn Johnson for always being by her side.
