Gary Erickson Adams passed away December 28, 2022, at the age of 92 in his home surrounded by his family. Gary was born October 30, 1930, the third of four sons of Arthur Walter and Mary Elizabeth Ericksen Adams in Logan, Utah. He was raised in Salt Lake City and graduated from South High School in 1948. He attended one quarter at the University of Utah then enlisted in the United States Marine Corps with a one-year active duty and a six-year commitment. As a Marine reservist, Gary was re-called to active duty during the Korean War and served with the 5th Marine Regiment in Korea for which he received four battle stars for action during the Korean Campaign. He was honorably discharged from the Marine Corps in 1956. He married Carol Noreene Gout on April 11, 1951. The marriage was solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple on August 17, 1978. Gary returned to the University of Utah in 1959 where in 1962 he graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering. He was employed by Utah Power & Light Co. as a temp, then later as a traveling maintenance man and he retired from the Company as the Manager of System Operations and Maintenance after 37 years of service.\n\nGary was a lifelong member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. In his service in the church, he held various positions such as High Counselor, Bishop’s Counselor, High Priest Group Leader, Elder’s Quorum President, Ward Executive Secretary, Ward Clerk and for 18 years was an Assistant Ward Clerk for Membership. Gary served as a service missionary at the Sandy Bishop’s Storehouse and for many years served in both the Salt Lake and Jordan River temples.\n\nHis wife Carol and his brothers Charles J Adams and Russell Arthur Adams as well as his Grandson Andrew Thomas Adams and daughter in-law, Janice Hinton Adams, preceded him in death. He is survived by his five children; Lou Ann Adams Butler of Murray, Mark Gary Adams (Janice, deceased) of Kaysville, Kathleen Adams Richards (Gary) of Sugarland, Texas, Kristine Adams Cross (Jeff) of Sandy, and Steven Arthur Adams (Patti) of Henderson, Nevada, 16 grandchildren, 38 ¼ great grandchildren his brother Richard Grant Adams (Karen) of Las Vegas, Nevada, and many nieces and nephews.\n\nFuneral services will be held on Friday, January 6, 2023, at 12 Noon at the Chevy Chase Ward of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, 5235 South Wesley Road (1100 East), Salt Lake City. Family and friends may call at Jenkins-Soffe Mortuary at 4760 S. State Street, Murray from 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm on Thursday, January 5, 2023, and one hour prior to service at the church. Interment will be next to his beloved wife and eternal companion at Larkin Sunset Gardens, 1950 East 10600 South. The family would like to thank Aspen Ridge Hospice as well as his angel nurse Ashlee and Luis his CNA for their loving and tender care with Dad. Semper Fidelis!
