Gary Roger Howell Jr. passed away peacefully at his home on Monday, October 30, 2023, surrounded by loved ones. Gary had been suffering for many years from Alzheimer’s disease. He was born January 23, 1963 to Gary Roger Howell Sr. and Joan Clarabell Howell in New London, Connecticut.\n\nGrowing up he lived in Hawaii, Huntington Beach California, and Simi Valley California. After graduating from Simi Valley High School he joined the United States Coast Guard where he completed basic training in Cape May, New Jersey. While in the Coast Guard, he married Carmela and had two children. He spent his time in the Coast Guard stationed at Los Angeles Air Station. He enjoyed his time there both boarding ships and participating in helicopter rescues.\n\nAfter leaving the Coast Guard, he joined the Simi Valley Police Department. While working as a DARE officer in Dr. Richmond’s classroom, he met his future wife while she was visiting her dad, Dr. Richmond. Gary and Elizabeth were married in September 1992. He continued to serve as an officer for ten years and was honorably discharged due to an on-the-job injury.\n\nGary was baptized into the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints after meeting Elizabeth. He had a love for serving others and a strong testimony of Jesus Christ and eternal families. He would often talk about how much comfort he received knowing he would be with his sister Laurie again.\n\nAfter retiring as a police officer, Gary continued to work throughout his life in various occupations involving law enforcement and private security. His favorite jobs were working for the Davis family, AMGEN, and Tiffany & Co. He enjoyed meeting various celebrities in these positions and would often tell stories of these encounters.\n\nIn 2005, Gary, Elizabeth, and their four kids settled in South Jordan, Utah.\n\nHe was an avid fitness enthusiast, Cafe Rio eater, LA Dodger fan, Team Fortress player, movie and music junkie, but above all, he was family-centered and would do anything for his kids. He was kind and generous to a fault to everyone he came into contact with. He would help anybody in need regardless if they were a stranger or close friend. He had an infectious laugh and could go from being the life of the party to talking to someone in need.\n\nGary is survived by his wife Elizabeth Richmond Howell; his six children, Steven Roger Howell, Jonathan Paul Howell, Corrine Elizabeth Brown (Alex), Cameron Scott Howell, Laurie Carolyn Howell & Glen Alan Howell; his grandchildren, Miriam Ellen Brown & Ruth Elizabeth Brown; and his mother, Joan Clarabell Howell; preceded in death by his father Gary Roger Howell Sr. and sister Laurie Lee Howell-Anderson.\n\nVisitation and Viewing will be held November 17, 2023 from 6:00-8:00 pm at Jenkins-Soffe South Valley, 1007 W. South Jordan Parkway, South Jordan, Utah. Visitation and Viewing will be held November 18, 2023 from 10:00-10:45 am. Funeral services will be held November 18, 2023 11:00 am Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, 1540 W 10400 S, South Jordan, Utah. Interment will follow funeral services at South Jordan City Cemetery.
