Our beloved Mother and Grandmother, Gaylene Kay Preston Jensen, passed away on October 6, 2007 after a courageous battle with ALS or Lou Gehrig’s disease. Although the disease eventually sapped her body of its strength, she lived life to the fullest until the very end.
Gaylene was born April 30, 1940 to Thomas Preston and Genevieve Peacock. She spent her childhood in Sunnyside, Utah. She attended and graduated from Carbon High School. She later went on and obtained a degree in Nursing and spent several years working with the Developmentally Disabled, a job that brought her much joy and satisfaction.
Gaylene married J Bradford (J.B.) Jensen on September 7, 1968. They were later sealed in the Salt Lake Temple. They spent most of their married life living in West Jordan. They are the parents of six children, 21 grandchildren, and 1 recently born great-grandson. Later in life, J.B. and Gaylene “adopted” Jon and Shelley Miller and their three children into the family.
Gaylene truly possessed the true love of Christ and dedicated her life to the service of others. She always went out of her way to help others without having to be asked and never turned down an opportunity to serve. She had an open door policy and made sure that there was always a meal for anybody who came by, a policy soon learned and appreciated by her children’s friends. Gaylene was a life long member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and held many callings that she magnified.
Gaylene is survived by her husband J.B.; children, Brad Olson of Las Vegas; Beth Gates; Lance (Kristy); Preston (Stacey); Shane (Liz); Becky (Shane) Fisher; Jon and Shelley Miller; also survived by her 24 grandchildren and 1 great-grandson; as well as sister Colleen (Robert) Potts; sisters-in-law Loraine Martinez and Jackie Sparks. Gaylene was preceded in death by her father and mother and parents in-law, Bradford and Leola Jensen. Gaylene was a devoted mother and grandma who loved her children and grandchildren dearly. Her favorite activities were having a house full of grandchildren or camping with the family. Mom, we love you and look forward to the day we will see you again.
