Salt Lake City, UT – Gerald “Jerry” Benjamin Bruin passed away on June 13, 2012 in Salt Lake City, Utah from his battle with cancer. He was born on October 14, 1937 to Barend and Johanna Bruin. He married his sweetheart, Karma Jean Russell, on April 10, 1959, and the love they shared was extraordinary.Jerry was a gentle giant. At 6’6”, he towered over most people, but he had a special way of making them feel at ease when they were around him. He loved being the owner of Big John’s Car Wash and his job as a bus driver for Canyons School District and Le Bus - he constantly shared stories about his coworkers and the kids on his bus.Jerry loved cars and to fix things. He loved popcorn, Coke, Gatorade, his wife’s cooking, San Diego, and the University of Utah. He cherished his wife, his family, and his service in the church. He was a great example his entire life.We love you grandpa Bruin!Jerry is survived by his wife, two brothers, Ronald and Roy, five children, Kent (Bettyanne), Rod (Jackey), Jan (Dave) Maughan, Kaylynn (Steve) Wheeler, and Jason (Candice), 15 grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, John and Stanley.Thank you to everyone who took care of Jerry during his battle with cancer.Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, June 19th at 11:00 a.m. at the Winder 4th Ward, 951 E 3825 S, Salt Lake City, UT. A viewing will be held on Monday, June 18th from 6-8 p.m. at Jenkins-Soffe Funeral Chapel, 4760 S State Street, Murray, UT and prior to services at the church on Tuesday from 9:45-10:45 a.m. Interment will be at Mountain View Memorial.
