Geraldine Clayton Felsted

–

Salt Lake City, UT

On November 4, 1928 Geraldine Clayton was born to Arvil Hugh Clayton and Olga Annie Sauer. A few minutes later, a surprise son, Gerald Clayton was born. Gerald passed away 3 months later from pneumonia. Geraldine was fussy and crying for many days because she missed sharing a crib with him.

Geraldine was a curious and precocious little girl that missed the deadline for kindergarten, but her mother somehow was able to enroll her and so she began school at the age of 4. She began working at the age of 12 as a “soda jerk” at an ice cream parlor. She decided that she was not going to do this forever and that she would work in an office like her dad. She took all the office classes in high school and excelled and also enjoyed being a part of the ice skating club. She graduated from South High in 1944 and began working as a bookkeeper at Purity Biscuit and then on to Equitable Life Insurance. She advanced to be in charge of the Home Loan Dept. payments. She went back to work, after the kids were older, at American Stores.

Geraldine married Clyde Joseph Felsted July 31, 1946. They were sealed in the Salt Lake City Temple June 11, 1947. They had three children Christy Berrie (Vernon), LaRae Handy (Kim), and Scott Felsted (Chris). They have 20 grandchildren and 42 great grandchildren.

Geraldine and Clyde served as Service Missionaries at the Family Search Library downtown helping people with their family search on the computers. They also served in the Jordan River Temple doing proxy sealings for 25 years. Their last mission together was serving at the Intermountain Hospital in Murray doing Sacrament meeting for the patients as well as visiting the patients in the hospital.

Gerry was always involved in PTA at the elementary, junior high, and high school. She served in many callings in Primary, Junior Sunday School, Stake Primary and Cub Scouts. She and her friend Kay Larsen were instrumental in beginning the libraries in the ward houses. Someone came and saw how they had organized our ward library and put the idea to the General Board. It was an exciting opportunity to share what they had done.

Gerry was an excellent homemaker, seamstress, and craft painter. Clyde would cut out the projects in wood and Gerry would paint them.

She is preceded in death by her husband, her parents, her brothers Arvil and Gerald, her sisters Elaine Harris and Lois Noble, son-in-law Kim Handy, and great grandson Ashton.

Geraldine Clayton left this world and moved on with her husband into the next life on Tuesday, February 4, 2020.

Her family would like to thank the staff at Summit Senior Living Memory Care and the Bristol Hospice for their care of Gerry through this difficult journey of dementia.

The funeral will be held at the Hunter 2nd Ward building 3970 South 5200 West on Tuesday, February 11, 2020 at 12:00 pm A viewing will be held beginning at 10:30-11:30. Interment will be at the Murray City Cemetery.
