“Devoted to Family”\nGladys Hudson Smith, 88, passed away April 16, 2007 in Salt Lake City, Utah. \nGladys was born January 2, 1919 in Greenville, South Carolina to Tally H. Hudson and Lessie Sally Daniels. She married Hyrum Ernest Smith on March 1, 1941 in Farmington, Utah. Their marriage was solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple on March 1, 1943. She was active in the LDS Church having served in many callings including, twice as a Relief Society President and several times as a Relief Society Teacher. Her last calling as Visiting Teacher was one of her most cherished; she loved her companion. However, she considered being a loving Mother and Grandmother her greatest calling in life. She lived for her visits with her family and they brought her great joy. \nShe and her husband, Ernie, enjoyed 32 years in Southern California where they raised their family. She retired after working 18 years for Riker Laboratories, Northridge, California. Following retirement they lived in Desert Hot Springs, California, Bloomington, Utah, with Murray, Utah being their last home for over 20 years. \nShe is survived by her five children, Shirley (Fred) Calder; Rexburg, Idaho; Laraine (Gary) Flood, Farmington, Utah; H. Ernest (Sylvia) Smith, Murray, Utah; Grant A. Smith, Clearfield, Utah; Karen (Daniel) Garrett, Scottsdale, Arizona; 24 Grandchildren, 50 Great Grandchildren (with 4 Great-Grandchildren and 1 Great-Great Grandchild expected); and Sister, Morene Williams. \nFuneral service will be held Friday, April 20, 2007, 11 am.in the Murray First Ward, 363 East Vine Street (approx. 4900 South), Murray, Utah. Friends may call at Jenkins-Soffe Mortuary, 4760 South State, Murray, Utah, Thursday 6-9 pm. and Friday 10-11 a.m. prior to the services at the Murray First Ward. Interment in Memorial Estates Mountain View Cemetery, 3115 E. 7800 S., Cottonwood Heights, Utah.
