What a joyful Christmas reunion he had with his parents.\r\n\r\nGreg was born on December 23rd, 1937, in Junction, Utah, to Jay W and Elizabeth Robinson Applegate. He was married to his sweetheart, Carole Ann Bryant, on March 8th, 1960, in the LDS Manti Temple. They were blessed with seven children and enjoyed sixty beautiful years together. \r\n\r\nGreg was a graduate of Richfield High School. He received his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees from BYU. He worked as an accountant with Del Monte Foods then served in the Church Education System as a seminary teacher and administrator for over 30 years. \r\n\r\nGreg was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, serving in many capacities, including Scouting, Elders Quorum President, Bishop, and High Councilor. He served for many years as an ordinance worker in the Jordan River Temple. After retirement, he fulfilled one of his lifetime dreams of serving a mission with Carole in the Missouri Independence Mission.\r\n\r\nHis main hobby was supporting and spending time with his family—going to sporting events, piano recitals, and all their activities. He also enjoyed gardening and loved studying the gospel. \r\n\r\nGreg was a hardworking, kind, compassionate man with a great sense of humor. No one could imitate Donald Duck better than him. Because he shared a birthday with the Prophet Joseph Smith, he had a great love and kinship with him—and a deep love for his Savior. He will be greatly missed. \r\n\r\nGreg is survived by his sweet wife, Carole, and his children, Kathryn Page (Brian), Jay (Suzie), Bruce (Shaunna), Jim (Lesha), Laura Rich (Dustin), Kristine Miller (Chris), Jennifer Burton (Jeff), and 30 grandchildren (plus seven spouses) and 11 great grandchildren (including a set of twins to be born any day). He is also survived by one brother, Thayne (Bette), and two sisters, Dennise Whelan (Ty) and Tamzon Smith, and many nieces and nephews.\r\n\r\nBecause of COVID-19, there will be a funeral service for immediate family only on Thursday, December 31st, 2020, at 2:00 p.m. But for anyone who would like to view the services, the funeral will be live streamed. Please visit www.jenkins-soffe.com. Greg will be buried in the South Jordan Memorial Park Cemetery. \r\n\r\nGreg’s family is working on making a book so that we will be able to remember all the great memories everyone has been sharing with us about him. We want Greg's posterity to be able to read them for many years to come. If you have a memory of Greg, would you please use this link to share it. If you have a picture, you could upload that also.
