Our dad, Pete Rutherford, passed away on April 6th, 2010, after a long, hard battle with cancer, with his entire family around him, holding our mom’s hand as he did for 40 years. He is now up in heaven watching his Yankees win the World Series, his Broncos win the SuperBowl and his University of Utah Utes win another perfect 12-0 season. Our dad fought such a hard battle to stay with us, because family was everything to him. He not only loved us, he adored us. He supported us in everything we did from sporting events, to dance competitions to picking out our cars and sometimes our jobs.Dad was born in La Junta, CO on July 6th, 1948. Growing up with his cousins around him he learned how important family was. He graduated from Tooele High School in 1966 and attended Utah State University. He became a Green Beret, Airborne in 1969 and then served in the Guard for 8 years. He worked in the car business for 36 years where he met and became great friends with many people. Our dad loved sports. It was one of his passions. There was not a question you could ask about sports that he did not know. He coached all three of his sons and was a die hard fan to his grandsons. Traveling was another passion. He traveled, with our mom, from the pyramids in Egypt to the Eiffel Tower in Paris. He walked on the beaches in Hawaii, Bahamas and Bermuda, would travel every two years to his Italian family reunions but he loved his annual Bear Lake trip with his family. Most of all, he LOVED to golf. And thanks to the doctors in Boston, he got to golf for a little bit longer. Our dad left a legacy to us…which was to love our family like nothing else in the world. He showed us this in his love for our mother. He loved her with all of his heart, which was bigger and stronger than we even knew.He is survived by the loves of his life, his wife, Margie, his children, Scott (Christi), Heather (Kelly), Tami (Cory) and Jeffrey (Katie). But the joys of his life were his grandchildren, Brittany (Scott), Brandon, Jordan, Jessica, Hailey, Taylor, Cameron, Jade, Trevor, Tyler and Trey. Also survived by his mother, Rose, his brother, Steve (Kathy) and his many golfing buddies and friends, especially Mo Salti, Bill Renwick, Jimmy Svitak and Bob Christopher. He is preceded in death by his father, Ben, and his son, Travis. We would like to thank the people at River Oaks Golf Course who were great to our dad and also to the people who helped him to fight his cancer; Dr. Jonathon Whisenant and all the people at Utah Cancer Specialists and Dr. Dale Rutledge, also our family, friends and neighbors who were so kind to us through this journey with cancer. We will see you at Sunday dinner, Dad!Funeral Services will be held on Monday, April 12th, 2010 at 11:00 am at Jenkins-Soffe South Valley, 1007 W.
