South Jordan, Utah—Helen C. De Carlo, beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend, passed away peacefully in South Jordan, Utah on Saturday, August 25, 2012 with her daughters, Linda Larsen and Rose Scott by her side.
Helen was born on 6 July 1919 in Lyman, Wyoming to Isaac Owen Bullock and to Elsie Claire Mills Bullock. She was delivered by her grandmother, Dr. Caroline A. Mills, a country doctor. She was the oldest of three children followed by a brother, Roy Owen Bullock, formerly of Hemet, California and a sister, Dorothy Claire Lynn currently of Salt Lake City. She attended elementary school, high school, two years of college at the University of Wyoming in Laramie and taught school 3 years in Piedmont, Wyoming before reaching the age of 21. Her first teaching assignment was in a one room school house.
She moved to Palm Springs, California after WWII to escape the cold winters. She had her daughter Linda in Palm Springs, and Rose at March Air
Force Base, CA. She worked as a secretary at Sunnymead Elementary School and later as an Administrative Assistant to the Superintendent for the Moreno Valley Unified School District.
She retired in 1989 after a 35 year career. She saw the district through the unification process and tremendous growth. She rented out rooms to district teachers (Vanez, Bonnie, Laura, Debbie, Karen to name a few) to support her daughters in college and they came to regard her as their second mother. She enjoyed participating in the county and state level educational office employee’s association and made friends with Bonnie, Lois, Betsy, and others who enjoyed many happy times together.
In 2005, she sold her home in Sunnymead and bought a condo in Honolulu, Hawaii. She spent many happy days on the lanai watching the airplanes land, the cruise ships sail the harbor and the soccer games on the field below her “Eagle’s Nest.” Her daughters and family enjoyed visiting with her and hearing of her adventures.
She is survived by her daughters, Linda and Rose, and their husbands, James Larsen and Steve Scott. She also has 12 grandchildren, Alexandra (Danny), Erik (Lisa), Ryan (Mandy), Natalie (Pete), Stephanie (Scott), Jon (Andrea), Kimberly (Larry), Alisa (Kirk), Laura (Jacob), David (Brittany), Erynn (Brian), Taylor and 26 great grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister-in-law, Ida Bullock and numerous nieces and nephews.
