Henry Boogaard Obituary (1930 - 2019)

Hendrik (Henry) Boogaard, son of Marinus and Minna Lina Dombrowski Boogaard, passed away on Saturday, November 23, 2019 in Murray, Utah at the age of 89 of heart failure. Henry was born in his parents home in Salt Lake City on April 15, 1930. After graduating from Granite High School, he married his eternal companion and sweetheart, Shirley Margaret Paul in the Salt Lake Temple on January 23, 1950. He worked for many years with Hi Land Dairy and started a second career working in the collections department for Valley / Chase Bank. He was always serving in his church including Elders quorum leadership, teachers quorum adviser in the South Cottonwood Sixth Ward, ward clerk for 10 years, 17 years in the baptistery at the Jordan River Temple, and 9 years as host at the Joseph Smith Memorial Building. He enjoyed gardening, camping, woodworking, leather work, archery, and home improvement projects. He was constant in his devotion to his wife and family of six children, 24 grandchildren and 54 great grandchildren. He is survived by his loving wife Shirley, Sister Joanne Wright, sons Steven (Donna, deceased), Craig (Carolyn) and Rod (Stephanie), daughters Karen Dearing (Gerald), Pam Alston (Mike), Leslie Chapman (Keith). In observing Henry’s life, his children and grandchildren have learned much about kindness, being patient in afflictions and having an enduring and exemplary marriage relationship. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Andy Boogard, Sisters Anna Worthington and Gijsberta (Bertha) vanVeenendaa and a granddaughter Kristin Boogaard.l. Viewings will be held at the River Ridge 8th Ward of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints located at 1409 W. Shields Lane (9800 South) in South Jordan, Utah from 6:00-8:00 pm on Tuesday, December 3, 2019 and from 10:00-10:45 am on Wednesday, December 4th. The funeral will be held at the same chapel starting at 11:00 am on December 4th. Burial will be at the Murray City Cemetery (5490 S. Vine Street in Murray, Utah) following the funeral service.
