Pleasant Grove, Utah
It is with broken hearts that we announce the passing of Holly Lynne Rosenhan Erekson on October 12, 2024, at her home in Pleasant Grove, Utah. Born on Christmas Day, 1960, at LDS Hospital in Salt Lake City, Utah, Holly was the third child and first daughter of Bill James Rosenhan and Chloe Louella Hatch. Her name, Holly, reflected the joy of her Christmas birth—though she joked that while she enjoyed double presents as a child, the excitement faded as her birthday became overshadowed by the holiday.
Holly grew up in Murray, Utah, where she attended McMillan Elementary, Hillcrest Junior High, and Murray High School. Even as a young girl, she was full of energy, excelling at both soccer and softball, often challenging the boys in her classes. Alongside her love of sports, Holly’s talents flourished in music. She became an accomplished pianist and singer, and during her senior year, she performed with the Madrigals Choir, which competed and won first place in Hawaii.
Holly continued her education at Brigham Young University, majoring in Communications. In the summer of 1983, her life took an unexpected and wonderful turn during a singles ward trip to Lake Powell, where she met Chris Erekson after injuring her back. From that point forward, they were inseparable, and on June 21, 1984, they were sealed in the Salt Lake City Temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Together, Holly and Chris built a life rooted in faith, love, and family.
In the early years of their marriage, Holly worked at IBM in Salt Lake City while Chris completed his degree at the University of Utah. The couple moved to Layton in 1988, where Chris began his career with State Farm Insurance, and Holly focused on raising their four children: Ashley, Jessie, Zachary, and Abby.
In 1995, the family relocated to Pleasant Grove, Utah, where Holly continued to nurture her many talents. She shared her musical gifts by playing the piano and organ for church services and teaching piano lessons to neighborhood children. Many of her students first recitals were held in her living room, where her love for music and teaching shone brightly.
Holly was a dedicated member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in various callings, including Young Women and Relief Society. Beyond formal roles, she had an extraordinary gift for reaching out to those in need. Whether it was a phone call, a quick stop by someone’s house, or a thoughtful drive with friends to grab a fresh lime soda, Holly showed a profound capacity for kindness. She was the first to offer comfort in times of illness, grief, or difficulty, always knowing just how to make others feel seen and loved.
Her family was her greatest joy, especially her three grandsons: Calvin, Wells, and Hudson (affectionately called "Huddy Buddy"). Holly cherished her role as a grandmother, spoiling her grandsons and creating special memories with each of them.
Holly also had a lively and curious spirit. She loved taking spontaneous drives around town, sometimes just to check in on others or drop off treats. Though she adored camping with her family, she often joked that she much preferred the comfort of hotels. She found joy in sewing, crocheting, and cross stiching, teaching her daughters how to create cozy blankets and fun crafts. She loved keeping up with friends and family on Facebook, where she was always the first to reach out and make sure everyone was doing well.
Holly is survived by her loving husband, Chris, her daughters Ashley, Jessie Hansen (Talmage), her son Zachary, and her youngest daughter Abby. She is also survived by her beloved grandchildren Calvin, Wells, and Hudson, along with countless friends and family whose lives she touched. Holly was preceded in death by her parents, Bill James, Chloe L., and Gloria Day Rosenhan, as well as her in-laws, Quentin J and Fern C. Erekson.
Holly’s life was a testament to love, service, and faith. She leaves behind a legacy of music, kindness, and connection that will continue to inspire all who knew her. Though she will be deeply missed, we find peace knowing she has returned to the arms of loved ones and to her Heavenly Father.
