Ilse Foerster Young passed away unexpectedly on August 19, 2015, at the age of 72, in an ATV accident while enjoying the mountains of Utah.
Ilse was born March 9, 1943 in the mission home of the LDS Church in Frankfurt, Germany to Otto H. and Ilse B. Foerster. She and her family immigrated to America in 1949. She graduated from Highland High School in 1961 and the University of Utah in 1964. She married John Spencer Young in the Salt Lake Temple on August 28, 1964. After brief stays in Illinois and Louisiana, they settled in Salt Lake City, Utah. Together they have always been the perfect team.
She spent her life in the service of others, blessing the lives of all those who knew her. She and John served missions in Cameroon, West Africa and at the Heber Valley Camp. Her church service also included callings such as Relief Society president, Pioneer Day parade float coordinator, and Gospel Doctrine instructor.
Ilse could do anything! She designed and oversaw the building of the family cabin in Timber Lakes, Utah, where she hosted, fed, and entertained hundreds. Her woodworking skills adorn every room. She had an incredible talent for preparing and serving meals for large groups with little-to-no notice. She had a cheerful, undefeatable attitude and was the one you'd want to have with you in any crisis large or small, such as a stalled car, a stormy night at Lake Powell, past-due homework, or a clogged kitchen sink. She could fix your broken fence and mend your broken heart.
Ilse spent her time serving those she knew and those she didn't. She loved being with her family and did all she could to teach them right from wrong, the truth of the restored Gospel of Jesus Christ, and how to have fun. She had a close and highly-prized relationship with each of her grandchildren and loved being an active part of their lives.
Ilse is survived by her husband, Dr. John S. Young; her children, Scott (Allison), Dave (Jennilyn), Roger (Darlene), April Sorensen (Andrew), and Brian (Jenny), along with twenty grandchildren and dozens of others she claimed as her own. She is also survived by her father and her brother, Gert Foerster (Shirley). She was preceded in death by her mother.
A viewing is scheduled for Thursday, August 27, 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Jenkins-Soffe Funeral Chapel, 1007 W. South Jordan Pkwy, South Jordan. An additional viewing will be held the following morning from 9:30 to 10:30 at the LDS chapel, 1409 W. Shields Lane (9800 South), South Jordan.
