Irene Austin Barber

Salt Lake City, Utah – Irene Austin Barber, 83, died Wednesday, January 21, 2009. Born July 5, 1925, in East Orange, New Jersey, she was the daughter of William and Mabel (Lawson) Austin. On December 20, 1941, she married John Barber in Rutherford, New Jersey. Since World War II they made their home in Bennington and for the past 35 years in Barre. A graduate of Johnson State College, she was a realtor and retired from the State of Vermont.
Oil painting, arts and crafts and homemaking were her special interests as well as spending time with her family. She had been a member of the Second congregational Church of Bennington.
She is survived by her daughter, Bonnie Becker of Salt Lake City, two sons, John G. Barber of Los Angeles, Clifford Barber of Orlando, Florida, and five grandchildren and one great grandchild.
Burial will be accorded at the Vermont Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery in Randolph Center at the convenience of her family. The Hooker & Whitcomb Funeral Home, 7 Academy Street, Barre, is in charge of the arrangements.
